In football, kickers usually toil in anonymity unless they miss. Which may be why VC sophomore kicker Jake Lanski is not a name one associates with the Pirates' success, but it should be. While accolades and awards have been heaped on the record-setting VC offense this season, Lanski has been a steady performer, and last week quietly set his own record, breaking the Pirates' all-time scoring mark. With four field goals and five extra points in Saturday's 53-39 Beach Bowl victory, Lanski finished his career with 188 total points, breaking VC Hall of Famer Travis Rodgers' (1998-99) previous record of 168. Lanski, a Ventura High School product, is this week's VC Pirate Student Athlete of the Week.
