
The short-handed Pirates' women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision at College of the Canyons Monday in a Western State Conference make-up from March 14. Bella Moga won both points for Ventura on the day with a win in doubles with Bella DeRosa and a win in singles play.
VC (7-10, 5-8) split the two doubles matches on the court with Nicole Iannacone and Alexis Schmidt falling in the No. 1 slot, 8-3, while Moga and DeRosa claimed the No. 2 match, 9-8. The Pirates lost the third doubles match by default.
In singles play, Moga won her No. 3 match 6-3, 6-2. Iannacone played a tough, three-set match at No. 2 before falling, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 and Beryllyn Paz had a strong effort at No. 5, dropping a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 decision. Schmidt dropped her No. 1 match, 6-2, 6-3 and De Rosa fell 6-4, 6-2 in No. 4 singles.
Ventura closes the regular season on Tuesday March 26 at Glendale.
