In a Western State Conference showdown, the VC men's tennis team defeated Glendale 6-3 Wednesday after play was suspended Thursday March 7 due to weather. Edgar Ploquin was a double winner with victories in No. 3 doubles with Julian Tellez and in No. 6 singles. Tellez also added a point when play resumed claiming the No. 4 singles contest. Cody Ray Emery won his No. 1 singles match.
The Pirates trailed 2-1 following doubles play in Glendale. Emery and Rafael Matias dropped their No. 1 match 8-5 while Lucas Abreau and Leo Pham-Kobayashi fell in No. 2 doubles by the same score. Tellez and Ploquin salvaged a point for the Pirates with their 8-3 win in No. 3 doubles.
Emery won his No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-2 and Abreau triumphed in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Ploquin also won his No. 6 singles contest 6-3, 6-2 to put VC on the verge of victory.
Tellez won his final game on Wednesday to win his No. 4 singles match to clinch the Pirate victory and Robinson Pelluault won his final set 6-3 to claim the No. 5 slot and set the final margin.
With the win, Ventura (8-6, 4-0) holds a two-game lead on the Vaqueros with two WSC matches remaining and two wins over GCC in hand.
The Pirates can clinch outright the WSC title on Thursday March 14 at home against Bakersfield.
