The VC softball team held an early lead, but could not hold it in their 6-1 defeat at Cerritos Tuesday. Alyssa Jacinto hit an RBI double for the Pirates' score against the Falcons.
Ventura took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a two-out rally. Savanna Higgins reached base on an error before A. Jacinto belted an RBI double for the early edge. Victoria Rodriguez followed up with a single to send Jacinto to third, but VC could not pick up the clutch hit to help their cause.
Cerritos countered with two runs in the bottom half of the first, and scored four in the third to take control.
The Pirate offense was held in check for the final six innings with just three base runners. Alexyss Campos drew a two-out walk in the fourth and Jennie Jacinto hit a single in the fifth before Raylene Reyes made it to first on an error.
VC will finally make its home debut on Friday Feb. 16, hosting Pasadena at 2:00 pm.
