The VC men's water polo team dropped a pair of decisions Saturday to close out the Golden West Tournament in Huntington Beach. The Pirates fell to the host Rustlers in the opener before losing to American River in the tournament finale. Owen Cugnoni had five goals with a pair of drawn ejections on the day while Scott Wagner had a goal with three drawn ejections and three steals in the two games.
Ventura 6, Golden West 21
Cugnoni scored four times for the Pirates with a pair of ejections drawn and Wagner had a goal and three steals. Thomas Vels also found the inside of the cage for VC.
Ventura 2, American River 15
Goals were at a premium for Ventura in the nightcap as Cugnoni and Luigi Travi each put the ball inside the cage. Vels contributed three steals defensively and Wagner had a pair of drawn ejections.
Ventura next hosts Grossmont on Thursday Sept. 21. The first sprint is scheduled for 1:30 at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
