The Ventura College women's tennis team captured a strong 7-2 victory Thursday afternoon over Antelope Valley at the VC Tennis Center. Beryllyn Paz and Bella Moga both won their singles matches love, love while Moga, Bella DeRosa, Nicole Iannacone and Chrystelle Aguiar all earned points in singles and doubles play for the Pirates (4-2, 2-2).
DeRosa and Moga shutout AVC in No. 2 doubles, 8-0, while Iannacone and Alexis Schmidt won in No. 1 doubles, 8-1. Aguiar and Paz put up a solid fight in dropping their No. 3 doubles slot, 8-5.
Paz was the first to register a shutout in singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 match. Moga soon followed with her 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 3 before DeRosa clinched the VC win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in No. 4 singles. Aguiar posted a 6-1, 6-4 margin in No. 5 singles and Iannacone finished the Ventura scoring with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2. Schmidt fought to the end despite falling in No. 1 singles 6-4, 1-6, 11-9 in a super tiebreaker.
VC will next host Glendale on Tuesday Feb. 27 at 2:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center.
