The Ventura College women's soccer team has advanced to the Southern California Regional Playoffs for the 19th consecutive season. The Pirates (11-4-5), seeded No. 10, will travel to No. 7 Santa Monica (17-1-3) on Saturday Nov. 22 for a first round match-up at 6:30 pm. A win in that match would set up a match against No. 2 Cerritos (19-1), or the winner of Thursday's Mt. San Antonio (14-5-1)-Golden West (9-7-4) play-in match. The second-round matches are on Nov. 25 or 26.
Ventura, who finished third in the Western State Conference North Division, lost an earlier match with the Corsairs, who finished second in the WSC South Division. Santa Monica defeated the Pirates at the VC Sportsplex on Sept. 12, 1-0. The Corsairs scored in the 21st minute of that match, and controlled the game early before VC became more aggressive in the second half, narrowly missing many chances at the equalizer late in the contest.
