WSC Champion Softball Team Transfers Five
August 14, 2017Fresh off their return to the top of the Western State Conference standings in 2017, the Ventura College softball team is proud to announce that five members of the team are transferring to four-year schools in 2017-18. Four of those transfers plan on continuing their softball careers at the four-year level. -
Brittany Perez Named All-State in Softball
June 09, 2017Ventura College sophomore slugger Brittany Perez earned All-State honors as awarded by the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association. The shortstop from Buena High School was in the Top-20 in the state in five individual offensive categories, including triples (7, 5th), home runs (11, 8th), runs batten in (49, 14th), runs scored (53, 19th) and hits (63, 20th). She led the Pirates to a 29-14 record and the program's first Western State Conference championship since 2012, earning WSC Most Valuable Player honors. -
Perez, Ford Lead Pirates With All-WSC Softball Honors
May 17, 2017Sophomore shortstop Brittany Perez was named the Western State Conference Most Valuable Player and first-year head coach Sonia Ford was named Coach of the Year in voting by the conference softball coaches earlier this month. The awards headlined several All-WSC North Division accolades for the Pirates, who finished tied atop the conference for the first time since 2012. Sophomores Julianne Abeloe and Justine De La Rosa and freshmen Anissa Padilla and Celeste Ekman also earned first-team ALL-WSC honors. -
Ventura Goes Down Swinging at Mt. SAC in Playoffs
May 06, 2017The Pirate softball team went down swinging Saturday in the SoCal Regional Playoffs, falling in the second game of the best-of-three series at Mt. San Antonio College 11-7. The Mounties earned the series sweep and advance to the Super Regional while the Pirates (29-14) end their season, but not without a fight. Ventura, the No. 16 seed, took a 5-4 lead in the top of the fifth inning on Celeste Ekman's tape-measure 3-run home run, but could not hold off the bracket's No. 2 seed. -
Pirate Softball Struggles in Playoff Loss
May 05, 2017In the first game of a best two-of-three series, the Pirate softball team fell 8-0 Friday evening at Mt. San Antonio College in five innings. The Pirates, seeded No. 16 in Southern California, could not get on base against the No. 2-seeded Mounties, as Mt. SAC retired all 15 batters the Pirates sent to the plate. Anissa Padilla took to the circle for VC (29-13), yielding eight runs, six earned, over the five innings with two strikeouts. -
Pirate Softball Advances in SoCal Playoffs
May 02, 2017Sophomore catcher Julianne Abeloe went 4-4 at the plate with a double, a triple and three runs batted in, and threw out three would-be base stealers at second base to lead the Pirate softball team to an 8-2 victory over Grossmont in the play-in round of the CCCAA SoCal Regional Playoffs Tuesday at the VC Softball Complex. Pitcher Anissa Padilla struck out eight Griffins to pickup the complete-game win as VC advanced to the best two-of-three round of the playoffs for the second straight year. -
Pirate Softball Gears Up for Playoffs
April 29, 2017The Western State Conference champion Pirate softball team will host its playoff opener on Tuesday May 2 at the VC Softball Complex at 2:30 pm against Grossmont College. The Pirates (28-12) host the Griffons (21-17) in the one-game play-in game, with an opportunity to advance to the best two-of-three first round series on Saturday and Sunday, May 6 and 7 at No. 1 Cypress or No. 2 Mt. San Antonio. -
Softball Claims Share of WSC Championship With Sweep
April 25, 2017After sitting for five days tied for first place with one double header remaining in the season, turns out the games were the easy part. The Pirate softball team swept visiting Oxnard in a pair-of five-inning games, 8-0 and 12-2 to capture a share of the Western State Conference North Division championship Tuesday at the VC Softball Complex. The Pirate battery came up big, with pitcher Anissa Padilla throwing a 1-hit shutout in the first game and catcher Julianne Abeloe hitting three triples with two RBI in the nightcap. -
Ventura Falls in Nine-Innings to Antelope Valley
April 22, 2017Perhaps Saturday's contest between Western State Conference East Division champion Antelope Valley and WSC North Division championship contender Ventura was better suited for April than its original February 10 date. The two playoff caliber teams went toe-to-toe at the VC Softball Complex for nine innings before the Marauders broke open a scoreless tie to take the 4-0 victory. Anissa Padilla had a solid day in the circle for VC (26-12, 17-5) while Julianne Abeloe and Arianna Rivas recorded the only two hits for the Pirates. -
Pirates Mercy Santa Monica, Move Into First Place Tie
April 20, 2017Megan Best pitched a 1-hit shutout, facing the minimum number of batters as the Pirate softball team easily defeated visiting Santa Monica 15-0 Thursday at the VC Softball Complex. Julianne Abeloe was 3-4 with a home run and a pair of runs batted in and Julianna Andrade was 2-3 with a homer and four RBI for the Ventura (26-11, 17-5). With the win, VC moves into a virtual three-way tie for first with Hancock and Cuesta atop the Western State Conference North Division. -
VC Softball Tightens WSC Race With Sweep
April 18, 2017The Pirate softball team turned the Western State Conference North Division into a three team race Tuesday with a double-header sweep over Bakersfield. Ventura won decisions of 2-1 and 6-5, in nine innings, to keep within shouting distance of first place Hancock and to remain in a second place tie with Cuesta. Softball Takes Two In Make-Up at SMC
April 17, 2017The Pirate softball team swept a double header at Santa Monica Monday in a make-up from a rain on on March 21. VC (23-11, 13-5) won the first game 10-2 before powering past the Corsairs 23-3 in the second contest. Julianna Andrade had seven hits on the day with nine RBI to lead Ventura while Justine De La Rosa smacked out six hits with six runs batted in. -
Ventura Softball Falls at Cuesta, 1-0
April 13, 2017The longest road trip of the Western State Conference season turned into the longest ride home for the Pirate softball team Thursday. VC gave up one unearned run to the host Cuesta Cougars, falling 1-0 in a key WSC North Division contest in San Luis Obispo. Brittany Perez had two hits, including a double, for Ventura (21-11, 12-5) and Ariana Rivas and Celest Ekman recorded a double and a single, respectively in the contest. Anissa Padilla had a strong outing in the pitcher's circle, giving up no earned runs in six complete innings. -

April 11, 2017The Ventura College softball team split a double header at Santa Barbara Tuesday, falling in the first game 5-3 before taking the nightcap 8-3. Brittany Perez had five hits on the day, including a home run and a double, with three RBI while Justine De La Rosa had three hits, including a home run, and three RBI. Anissa Padilla was solid in the circle for Ventura (21-10, 12-4), pitching 13 innings in the twin-bill giving up four earned runs. -
Pirates' Walk Off Walk Tightens WSC Race
April 06, 2017The Pirates' softball team used a walk-off walk in the bottom on the ninth inning to claim a 1-0 victory over visiting Allan Hancock Thursday afternoon at the VC Softball Complex. Anissa Padilla drew a bases loaded base on balls with two outs to force in Justine De La Rosa for the game-winning run. With the win, VC (20-9, 11-3) pulls closer to the log jam atop the Western State COnference North Division. -
Pirate Softball Has Rough Time at Santa Ana
April 03, 2017The Pirate softball team had a difficult road trip Monday, falling 8-0 at Santa Ana College. Ventura (19-9, 10-3) managed just three hits on the day against Santa Ana pitching, doubles by Justine De La Rosa and Celeste Ekman, and a single by Brittany Perez. Anissa Padilla pitched four innings for VC, giving up seven runs and Megan Best pitched into the sixth, yielding the final run of the game. -
Pirate Softball Gets 3-Hit Shutout Win Over Moorpark
March 30, 2017Anissa Padilla pitched a three-hit shutout, and was 2-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI as the Pirate softball team won a big road game at Moorpark 2-0 on Thursday afternoon. Julianne Abeloe was 3-4 with a doubleand Celeste Ekman was 2-3 with an RBI in the win for Ventura (19-8, 10-3). -
Ventura Takes Two Against Brahmas
March 28, 2017The VC softball team hosted Los Angeles Pierce in a double header Tuesday, taking both games from the Brahmas, 7-2 and 19-0. Brittany Perez led the way with six hits on the day, including a home run and a pair of triples, with three RBI in the two games. Arianna Rivas recorded five hits for Ventura (18-8, 9-3), who sits in second place in the Western State Conference North Division standings. -
VC Closes Spring Games With Another Split
March 26, 2017On the final day of the Ventura College Spring Games, the Pirate softball team split two more games, leaving them 2-2 on the weekend. VC defeated Hartnell 6-4 in the first game of the day before closing the weekend with a 3-2 walk-off loss to Long Beach. Justine De La Rosa had four hits on the day and Brittany Perez had a pair of knocks with three RBI. Anissa Padilla threw both games from the circle for the Pirates (16-8, 7-3). -
Pirate Softball Splits First Day of VC Spring Games
March 25, 2017The Pirate softball team split a pair of contests on the first day of the VC Spring Games Saturday at the VC Softball Complex. The Ventura Pirates defeated the Porterville Pirates in the opener 5-0 before falling to Mt. San Jacinto 7-4 in the second. Justine De La Ros had four hits on the day with a triple and Arianna Rivas had three, including a double. -

March 23, 2017The Pirate softball team ran away from Oxnard on the road Thursday, posting an 8-1 victory over the Condors. Brittany Perez was 3-3 with a home run and a double, three runs scored and three runs batted in to lead the Ventura offense. Meanwhile, Anissa Padilla captured the win i the pitcher's circle, scattering five hits with three strike outs while allowing just one run. -
Pirates Sweep Double-Header Against Cuesta
March 14, 2017The Pirate softball team swept a double-header against visiting Cuesta College Tuesday afternoon at the VC Softball Complex, taking game one in walk-off fashion, 5-4, before prevailing in game two, 4-1. Justine De La Rosa had the game-winning hit to walk off the Cougars in the bottom of the seventh inning in the first game, and Celeste Ekman knocked out three hits on the day. -
Padilla Two-Hits Santa Barbara as VC Wins
March 09, 2017Pirate pitcher Anissa Padilla gave up two hits over five innings as the VC softball team defeated visiting Santa Barbara 10-2 Thursday afternoon. Celeste Ekman had three hits and three RBI to pace the Ventura offense and Julianne Abeloe was 2-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. -
VC Softball Swept at Allan Hancock
March 07, 2017The Pirate softball team traveled to Santa Maria for two Tuesday against Allan Hancock College, only to come home empty. VC lost the first game 4-1 before falling 14-13 in the nightcap to the Bulldogs. Brittany Perez had four hits and eight RBI on the day, including a grand slam home run. Julianne Abeloe also had four hits on the day, scoring twice for the Pirates (9-6, 2-3). -
Pirate Softball WIns Big in San Diego
March 04, 2017Playing two games at two different schools on Saturday, the Ventura College softball team produced two big wins. The Pirates defeated San Diego City College 11-1 in six innings in game one of the day before traveling the eight miles to San Diego Mesa College, defeating the Olympians 19-1. Julianne Abeloe had seven hits on the day while Brittany Perez and Celeste Ekman totaled five. Anissa Padilla picked up two wins in the pitcher's circle for VC (9-4, 2-1). -
Pirates Take Two From LA Mission
March 02, 2017It was a great day to play two Thuesday afternoon, and the Pirate softball team thought it was a great day to take two. Ventura swept Los Angeles Mission College in a double header at the VC Softball Complex, taking game one 6-3 before prevailing in the nightcap, 11-4. Brittany Perez was a perfect 5-5 on the day, hitting for the cycle in the two games with two singles, a double, a triple and a home run. Celeste Eckman totaled six hits in the two games for VC (7-4, 2-1). -

February 28, 2017Playing at home for the first time this season after seven games on the road, the Pirate softball team split a double header against visiting Moorpark on Tuesday afternoon. VC (5-4, 2-1) fell 5-3 in the first game before defeating the Raiders 7-6 in eight innings in the nightcap. Brittany Perez had three hits on the day, including a home run and a triple, and Julianne Abeloe was 4-4 in game two with the game-winning RBI. -
Ventura Runs Away from Pierce On the Softball Diamond
February 23, 2017The Ventura College softball team had no trouble scoring runs, defeating Los Angeles Pierce 27-0 in a five-inning game Thursday afternoon in Woodland Hills. Anissa Padilla and Megan Best shared pitching duties in the shutout. Brittany Perez led the offensive onslaught with four hits, including three triples, with two RBI. Julianne Abeloe, Celeste Ekman and Danielle Carmona all had three hits each. -
VC Runs Away With Big Victory at Victor Valley
February 21, 2017The Pirate softball team answered a 1-0 deficit with 17 unanswered runs in a big victory at Victor Valley College Tuesday in Victorville. Juliana Abeloe went 4-5 with a double and six RBI and Julianna Andrade reached base four times, including a triple, with four runs scored with an RBI. Emily Reyes had a pair of hits with an RBI and a run scored for the Pirates (3-3). -
Pirate Softball Hangs With Defending State Champs
February 16, 2017The Ventura College softball team stayed with the defending state champions for three-plus innings before falling at Santiago Canyon Thursday, 15-8. VC trailed 5-4 in the middle of the third inning before the Hawks pulled away. Celeste Ekman was 2-4 with two doubles and three RBI while Juliana Abeloe also had two hits with a double and an RBI with three runs scored.
