It was a great day to play two Thursday afternoon, and the Pirate softball team thought it was a great day to take two. Ventura swept Los Angeles Mission College in a double header at the VC Softball Complex, taking game one 6-3 before prevailing in the nightcap, 11-4. Brittany Perez was a perfect 5-5 on the day, hitting for the cycle in the two games with two singles, a double, a triple and a home run. Celeste Ekman totaled six hits in the two games for VC (7-4, 2-1).
Ventura 6, LA Mission 3
VC doubled up the Eagles in game one of the twin bill, 6-3. The Pirates scored two runs in the first and followed with three more in the third to go ahead 5-0. LAMC countered with one in the fourth, and Ventura answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame. Mission plated two scored in the top of the seventh to set the final margin.
Anissa Padilla picked up the victory in the pitcher's circle for VC. Perez was 3-3 with a double and a solo home run. Christina Hart had a triple with three RBI and Ekman was 2-4 while scoring three runs.
Ventura 11, LA Mission 4
Ventura jumped all over Mission in game two, defeating the Eagles 11-4. The Pirates scored seven runs in the first inning and followed with three in the second and one in the third for an 11-0 advantage. Mission scored one in the fourth and three in the fifth to avoid the mercy rule.
Megan Best was on the mound for the Pirates in the victory. Ekman led with a 4-4 game with a pair of doubles and two RBI and Perez was 2-2 with a triple, knocking in two runs. Arianna Rivas had three hits in the game and Julianna Andrade was 2-2 with a pair of RBI. Hart had two hits, including a triple, with one run batted in while Julianne Abeloe also knocked out two hits.
VC next travels to San Diego on Saturday March 4 for a pair of games. The Pirates will play at San Diego City College at 11:00 am before heading to San Diego Mesa for a 3:00 pm game that afternoon.
