
The Pirate softball team traveled to Santa Maria for two Tuesday against Allan Hancock College, only to come home empty. VC lost the first game 4-1 before falling 14-13 in the nightcap to the Bulldogs. Brittany Perez had four hits and eight RBI on the day, including a grand slam home run. Julianne Abeloe also had four hits on the day, scoring twice for the Pirates (9-6, 2-3).
Ventura 1, Allan Hancock 4
The Pirates dropped game one of the double header 4-1. THe Bulldogs went ahead with four runs in the third inning and VC score one in the fifth. Abeloe was 2-4 with a double and a run scored and Justine De La Rosa also had a pair of hits with a double. Perez also recorded two hits with an RBI. Anissa Padilla struck out three batters from the pitcher's circle for VC.
Ventura 13, Allan Hancock 14
Ventura could not hold a three run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning in the nightcap, falling 14-13. The Pirates trailed 9-3 after four innings, but came back with four and five runs in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, and another score in the seventh to go ahead 13-10.
Perez carried the big bat for Ventura in the game with two home runs, three runs scored and seven RBI. Abeloe had a pair of hits in the game with a run scored and an RBI while Arianna Rivas had three hits with a pair of runs scored. Julianna Andrade had a double with two RBI and Celeste Ekman scored three runs.
Padilla and Megan Best shared pitching duties in the contest.
VC continues conference play Thursday March 9 hosting Santa Barbara. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
