
The VC softball team won two of three games over the weekend at the President's Desert Classic. Ventura defeated the hosts, College of the Desert, 15-4 in five innings on Friday before winning over Saddleback 4-2 and dropping the final contest of the weekend against Imperial Valley, 2-0. Lauren Albrent hit five doubles on the weekend, knocking in five runs and scoring four while Isabel Gallegos had three hits, including a triple and double, with four runs scored. Isabella Ayala had six RBI for the weekend.
Ventura 15, Desert 4
The Pirates were not gracious guests, slugging their way past the tournament hosts 15-4. Albrent was 3-4 with three doubles, scoring three runs and knocking in four to lead the offense for Ventura. Gallegos batted 3-3 with a double and a triple, scoring three times and recording a pair of RBI and Ayala had a pair of hits and five RBI. Leanna De La Cruz, Abby Strong and Ashley Perez all recorded two hits in the game.
Kat Tafoya pitched a complete game, giving up nine hits and four runs to pick up the win in the circle.
Ventura 4, Saddleback 2
VC scattered eight hits in the game with Albrent hitting an RBI double and scored a run. Ayala had a hit, scored a run, and knocked in one score and De La Cruz also singled and scored. Gallegos had a walk and scored a run.
Ashlyn Flinchum made the start in the circle, pitching six innings while scattering eight hits and allowing a pair of runs to earn the victory. Tafoya came on in relief to pitch the final frame, picking up the save.
Ventura 0, Imperial Valley 2
The Ventura bats went silent in the weekend finale. Ciana Garcia and De La Cruz were the only players to register a hit in the game.
Morgan Albertsen started the game, throwing three innings and yielding a pair of runs, while Tafoya pitched three scoreless innings in relief.
Ventura next travels to Santa Ana on Tuesday Feb. 22 to complete a suspended game from Feb. 4, then travels to Bakersfield on Saturday Feb. 26 o play College of the Siskiyous and the host Renegades.
