The Western State Conference champion Pirate softball team will host its CCCAA SoCal Regional Playoff opener on Tuesday May 2 at the VC Softball Complex at 2:00 pm against Grossmont College. The Pirates (28-12) host the Griffons (21-17) in the one-game play-in game, with an opportunity to advance to the best two-of-three first round series on Saturday and Sunday, May 6 and 7 at No. 1 Cypress or No. 2 Mt. San Antonio.
VC tied with Hancock atop the WSC North Division with 19-5 records. It is the Pirates' first conference championship since the 2012 season.
Grossmont, which is located in the San Diego area in El Cajon, comes into the playoffs off a third place finish in the Pacific Coast Conference, posting an 11-5 conference mark.
Gates will open one hour before first pitch at the VC Softball Complex. Admission prices, set by the CCCAA, will be $12 for adults and $8 for students, faculty, staff, seniors (60 and over) and children under 12.
A Ventura victory on Tuesday will send the Pirates either to No. 1 Cypress or No. 2 Mt. San Antonio, depending on the result of the other play-in game between No. 15 Allan Hancock and No. 18 Fullerton in Santa Maria.
