
The Ventura College softball team opened the 2022 season with a pair of wins at the Glendale Tournament on Friday. The Pirates defeated Los Angeles Harbor in the first game of the day 9-1 before defeating East Los Angeles 16-1 in the nightcap. Lauren Albrent had five hits on the day, including three home runs, a triple and a double with four runs batted in and Isabella Ayala recorded five hits with a triple and four RBI. Sophomore pitchers Morgan Albertsen and Kat Tafoya picked up wins in the circle for VC (2-0).
Ventura 9, Los Angeles Harbor 1 (5 innings)
VC opened the season with a run-rule victory over the Seahawks. The Pirates scored twice in the bottom of the first, three times in the second, and four runs in the third inning before yielding a single run in the top of the fourth. Albertsen was the winning pitcher for Ventura.
Ayala was 4-4 in the game with a triple and three RBI and Albrent had three base hits, including another homer and a triple with an RBI. Leanna De La Cruz produced four RBI with a single and a double and Jalen Barron was 3-3 with two RBI. Garcia was 2-3 while knocking in one run and Kayla Garza was 2-2 with an RBI.
The Pirates finish up the Glendale Tournament on Saturday Jan. 28\9 with a 4:30 pm contest against Barstow College.
