The Ventura College softball team traveled to Los Angeles Mission for a non-conference contest and lost a 6-3 decision. Ventura was stymied at the plate managing just four hits for the game. Brittney Banales hit a home run for VC, Claira Lozano added a double.
Ventura (7-5) looked to carry the momentum of their recent five game winning streak into the final few non-conference games before opening Western State Conference North play. Ventura fell behind 3-0 after one inning of play but responded in the top of the second with two runs on a LAMC fielding error. In the sixth inning after falling behind 5-2, VC responded with one run when Banales drove a ball deep over the left field wall to get the Pirates within two runs, but they were unable to overcome the deficit.
Olivia Hernandez started in the circle for the Pirates allowing seven hits in the game while being dealt the loss. Lindsey Dietz and Julianne Abeloe added the last two hits for the Pirates.
Ventura will be off until Tuesday Feb. 23 when they travel to LA Valley for a 2:30 pm game. They will then host a doubleheader at Ventura College on Saturday Feb. 27 taking on San Diego Mesa at 12:00 pm and then Santiago Canyon following the early game.
