
Fresh off their return to the top of the Western State Conference standings in 2017, the Ventura College softball team is proud to announce that five members of the team are transferring to four-year schools in 2017-18. Four of those transfers plan on continuing their softball careers at the four-year level.
WSC Player of the Year and All-State shortstop Brittany Perez (Buena HS) and first-team All-WSC catcher Julianne Abeloe (St. Bonaventure HS) both will be transferring to NAIA Division I Oklahoma City University to continue their academic and softball careers. OCU is also the alma mater of Pirate Head Coach Sonia Ford.
First team All-WSC outfielder Justine De La Rosa (Fillmore HS) will continue her academic and athletic careers at Hope International University, an NAIA school in Fullerton.
Second-team ALL-WSC outfielder Julianna Andrade (Channel Islands HS) is transferring to NCAA Division II Cal State Monterey Bay. She plans to walk on with the Otters in the spring.
Meanwhile, second-team ALL-WSC out Alyssa Frutos (Santa Paula HS) has been accepted into the Athletic Training program at Cal State Fullerton.
The 2017 Ventura College softball team finished with a record of 29-14, 19-5 in WSC play, claiming their first conference title since 2012. The team finished the spring with a team GPA of 3.17.
