
The Pirate softball team closed the VC Spring Games with a split of two games Sunday at the VC Softball Complex. The Pirates fell to Canyons 7-3 in the morning before defeating Porterville 6-3 in the weekend finale. Yamilex Ruiz had two doubles, scored twice and had two RBI for Ventura on the day.
Ventura 3, Canyons 7 (5 innings)
The Pirates fell behind 5-0 against the Cougars after two innings before playing the rest of the way even. Ruiz had a double with a run scored and an RBI and Gabriella Ramos hit an RBI triple. Claira Lozano had a hit and scored a run for VC.
Alexis White started in the pitcher's circle, and she was relieved by Carly Camarillo.
Ventura 6, Porterville 3
Farris Burke pitched seven strong innings, scattering seven hits while giving up three runs, two earned, while batting 2-4 at the plate with a run scored. Lindsey Deitz had two hits, including a triple, and scored a run while Ruiz repeated her performance fro the morning with an RBI double with a run scored. Brittany Perez scored three times and had two RBI.
Ventura next hosts conference-leading Allan Hancock on Tuesday March 31 for a double-header.
