
On the final day of the Ventura College Spring Games, the Pirate softball team split two more games, leaving them 2-2 on the weekend. VC defeated Hartnell 6-4 in the first game of the day before closing the weekend with a 3-2 walk-off loss to Long Beach. Justine De La Rosa had four hits on the day and Brittany Perez had a pair of knocks with three RBI. Anissa Padilla threw both games from the circle for the Pirates (16-8, 7-3).
Ventura 6, Hartnell 4
The Pirates won the first game of the day, 6-4 over the Panthers. After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, VC , the "visiting" team, scored twice in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. Hartnell responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning before VC took the lead for good with four runs in the fifth.
Perez had a pair of hits, including a double, and three RBI. De La Rosa knocked out two hits and Padilla was 1-3 with a double. Padilla also picked up the victory as the pitcher in the game.
Ventura 2, Long Beach 3
The Pirates let a 2-0 lead slip away against the Vikings, falling 3-2 in bottom of the seventh. VC was the "visiting" team once again, and took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Long Beach responded with one run in the bottom half of the frame, and another score in the fourth. LBCC then won with a walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
De La Rosa and Christina Hart were both 2-4 with a double in the game.
The Pirates will resume Western State Conference play at home on Tuesday March 28 against Los Angeles Pierce. VC will host the Brahmas for a twin-bill, beginning at 1:00 pm.
