Pirate Student Athletes Strong in the Classroom
August 19, 2022Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2021-22, achieving an overall 3.26 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a solid 3.19 overall GPA in the spring. A total of 123 Pirates earned Dean's List honors in the fall of 2021 with a 3.5 GPA or better while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 51 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In the spring, 112 VC student athletes were featured on the Dean's List with 41 posting perfect GPA's. -
VC Women Earn Academic Honors from the ITA
July 26, 2022The Pirates' women's tennis team has again earned distinction as an All-Academic Team as honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association while all eight team members were named Junior College Women's Scholar Athletes by the ITA as released last week. The Pirates posted a 3.76 overall grade point average in the spring 2022 semester to be one of 14 teams, one of eight from California, to be recognized nationally. -
Nguyen, McClain Earn All-WSC Honors
June 13, 2022Elizabeth Nguyen and Alyssa McClain have earned All-Western State Conference honors for the Pirates' women's tennis team with their play during the 2022 season. The pair received first team awards in Nos. 4 and 5 singles, respectively, and also as a duo in No. 3 doubles, as selected by the conference coaches. -
Women's Tennis Ends Season at SoCal Regionals
April 30, 2022The Pirates' women's tennis team had their 2022 season come to an end on Saturday at the Southern California Regionals at Cypress College. VC's doubles team of Hanna Dever and Victoria Zegers dropped their match against a duo from Grossmont to close the season one victory shy of a berth in the CCCAA State Championships. Dever also fell one win short in singles play on Friday. -
McClain and Nguyen Playin WSC Doubles Semifinals
April 08, 2022VC's doubles team of Alyssa McClain and Elizabeth Nguyen played in the Western State Conference semifinals Friday at the VC Tennis Center. Although the pair dropped the match to the draw's No. 1 seed from Santa Monica, they have qualified to continue their season on April 29 at the Southern California Regional Tournament at Cypress College. -
McClain and Nguyen Advance to WSC Doubles Semifinals
April 02, 2022Ventura's doubled team of Alyssa McClain and Elizabeth Nguyen advanced to the semifinals of the Western State Conference Women's Doubles Tournament on Saturday. The pair will continue play on Friday April 8 at 1:00 pm in their attempt to move into the conference championship. -
Dever Qualifies For SoCal's in Singles
April 01, 2022Ventura College No. 1 singles player Hanna Dever prevailed in a pair of matches Friday to advance to the Western State Conference women's singles quarterfinals on Saturday. She also qualified to compete in the Southern California Regional Championships to be held April 29-30 at Cypress College. -
Women's Tennis Begins Play in WSC Championships
March 31, 2022Members of the Ventrua College women's tennis team opened play in the Western State Conference Singles and Doubles Championships Thursday at the VC Tennis Center. Victoria Zegers led a host of Pirates moving into the round of 32 in singles play, and she teamed up with Hanna Dever to move into the quarterfinals of the doubles draw. Alyssa McClain and Elizabeth Nguyen also produced a pair of wins in doubles to move into the round of eight. -
WSC Tennis Championships Return to Ventura College
March 30, 2022After three years away, the Western State Conference men's and women's singles and doubles tennis championships are returning to the VC Tennis Center. Action will commence on Thursday March 31 beginning with women's singles play at 2:00 pm while men's singles begins Friday April 1 at 10:00 am. An opening ceremony along with presentation of all-conference awards will take place on the championship courts at 9:00 am on Friday April 1. -
VC Falls in Final Match of Women's Tennis Team Season
March 25, 2022The VC women's tennis team fell in its final team match of the 2022 season 9-0 at Orange Coast Friday in Costa Mesa. The shorthanded Ventura team, which did not field No. 3 doubles or No. 6 singles competitors, still gave a strong effort despite the final result. -
Women's Tennis Closes WSC Schedule With Victory
March 22, 2022The VC women's tennis team closed their conference schedule Tuesday with a 5-4 victory at Antelope Valley College. Tanya Thompson provided the match-clinching point with a come-from-behind victory in No. 5 singles after teaming up with Elizabeth Nguyen to win a narrow decision in No. 2 doubles. Nguyen and Alyssa McClain were also double-winners on the day. -
Pirates drop Another 5-4 Decision in WSC Play
March 17, 2022For the third time in the past four matches, and for the fourth time this season in Western State Conference play, the VC women's tennis team dropped a narrow 5-4 decision, Tuesday to Santa Monica at the VC Tennis Center. Alyssa McClain and Elizabeth Nguyen both earned a doubles point, and each won their respective singles match, and Tanya Thompson won in singles to nearly push the Pirates to victory. -
Ventura Falls in WSC Action to LA Mission
March 15, 2022The VC women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Los Angeles Mission College at the VC Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon. Elizabeth Nguyen and Alyssa McClain were both double winners, earning all three points for Ventura (4-7, 3-7) in the match. -

March 10, 2022The VC women's tennis team dropped a close 5-4 decision to Bakersfield College Thursday afternoon. Elizabeth Nguyen and Alyssa McClain were each double winners in the match, earning a point together in doubles and each winning their respective singles contests. -

March 08, 2022The VC women's tennis team continues to show signs of improvement, but dropped a close 5-4 decision at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita Tuesday. Elizabeth Nguyen and Alyssa McClain were each double winners on the day for the Pirates (4-5, 3-5). -

March 03, 2022The VC women's tennis team avenged a loss earlier in the season with a 5-4 victory over Glendale Thursday at the VC Tennis Center. Elizabeth Nguyen, Alyssa McClain and Tanya Thompson all were double winners for the Pirates in the closely fought contest. -
VC Doubles Marauders in 6-3 Win
February 22, 2022On a cool and blustery day the Ventura College women's tennis team battled through the elements to double-up visiting Antelope Valley 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center. Tanya Thompson and Iskra Volic partnered to win their doubles match, and also won their respective singles contests, producing four of the Pirates' six points in the triumph. -
Pirates Drop WSC Match at Santa Monica
February 17, 2022The Pirates' women's tennis team traveled to Santa Moncia Thursday, dropping a 6-3 decision to the Corsairs in Western State Conference play. Ventura led 2-1 after doubles play, with wins by Iskra Volic and Tanya Thompson at No. 2 and Alyssa McClain and Elizabeth Nguyen at No. 3, but dropped a pair of close singles matches resulting in the team defeat. Nguyen was the only Pirate to win in singles play. -

February 15, 2022The VC women's tennis team traveled to San Fernando on Tuesday, dropping a 6-3 decision to Los Angeles Mission College. The doubles team of Elizabeth Nguyen and Tanya Thompson earned a point while Victoria Zegers and Nguyen each earned points in singles play for the Pirates (2-3, 1-3). -

February 10, 2022The Pirate women's tennis team hosted Bakersfield on Thursday at the VC Tennis Center, coming away with their first conference win of the season 6-3 over the Renegades. Hanna Dever Alyssa McClain and Dee Emami were all double winners for Ventura (2-2, 1-2), earning points in singles and doubles play. -

February 08, 2022The VC women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to visiting College of the Canyons Tuesday at the VC Tennis Center. Alyssa McClain was a double winner, winning her No. 6 singles match and teaming up with Dee Emami to claim the No. 3 doubles match. Elizabeth Nguyen won her No. 4 singles match for the third point for the Pirates (1-2, 0-2). -
Women's Tennis Captures First Win of the Season
February 05, 2022The Ventura College women's tennis team posted their first win of the young season Saturday, defeating Mt. San Antonio College 6-3 at the VC Tennis Center. Hanna Dever and Elizabeth Nguyen were both double winners for the Pirates (1-1, 0-1) winning at Nos. 1 and 3 singles, and teaming up to claim the No. 1 doubles match. Dee Emami was also a double winner, prevailing in her No. 5 singles match and pairing with Alyssa McClain to win in No. 3 doubles. -
Women's Tennis Opens 2022 with Narrow Defeat
February 03, 2022The VC women's tennis team narrowly lost its opening match of the 2022 season 5-4 at Glendale College Thursday afternoon. Hanna Dever won her No. 1 singles match and Ava Gallo prevailed in No. 6 singles while the duos of Tanya Thompson and Iskra Volic, and Alyssa McClain and Dee Emami earned victories at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively. -
Updates for Spectators at Home Ventura College Athletic Events
January 12, 2022The recent surge in Covid-19 due to the Omicron variant has changed the landscape of our intercollegiate athletics at Ventura College. To insure an environment that is as safe as possible for student athletes, coaches, support personnel and fans, VC Athletics is issuing the following reminders and new guidelines for those in attendance at our home basketball games and spring athletic contests.
