The VC women's Tennis team got off to a slow start Friday and couldn't make the comeback, falling 6-3 to Bakersfield at the VC Tennis Center. Talia Lieb, Nell Elaerts and Elizabeth Nguyen all won singles matches in attempt to bring the Pirates (4-6, 4-6) back from a 3-0 deficit after doubles play.
Despite nearly perfect weather at the VC Tennis Center, the Pirates got off to a difficult start, dropping all three doubles matches to the Renegades.
Elaerts started a comeback bid for Ventura with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles and Lieb followed with a love and one triumph in the No. 1 slot. Bakersfield then clinched their win with victories in Nos. 3 and 4 singles before Nguyen won her No. 5 singles contest 6-2, 6-4 for VC's final point.
The Pirates next travel to Santa Monica on Tuesday March 21.
