
The VC women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to Orange Coast College Friday in Costa Mesa. Talia Lieb was a double-winner for the Pirates of VC, teaming up with Nell Elaerts to win in No. 1 doubles before defeating her Pirate opponent from OCC in No. 1 singles.
In doubles play, Orange Coast took the early lead with a win in No. 2 and OCC's No. 3's defeated Marcie McTigue and Belladora Moga 8-5. Lieb and Elaerts then hung on for an exciting 9-7 win in the No. 1 doubles contest to pull VC to within 2-1.
Unfortunately, the Pirates of the South got the best of the Pirates of the North in singles play, winning five matches. Alexis Schmidt dropped a close 7-6, 6-4 decision in No. 3 singles while Moga was within 6-3, 6-4 in No. 4. Lieb did pull out a 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 victory in the No. 1 slot to set the final 7-2 margin.
Ventura will close out the regular season on Tuesday March 28 at Santa Monica before hosting the Western State Conference singles and doubles championships beginning Thursday March 30.
