
The Pirates' women's tennis team returned from a week of rainouts Thursday, dropping a 6-3 decision at Los Angles Mission College in Sylmar. Alexis Schmidt and Elizabeth Nguyen were both double winners for VC (4-5, 4-5) for their three points in the match.
Ventura trailed 2-1 following doubles play with the lone VC point coming in the No. 2 match. Schmidt and Nguyen paired together to defeat their LAMC opponents 8-6 in the contest.
In singles play, the Eagles quickly claimed the match with wins at Nos. 1, 6 and 5. Nguyen then recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win at no. 4 and Schmidt claimed the No. 3 slot, prevailing 6-0, 6-3.
VC has a quick turnaround, hosting Bakersfield in a make-up match on Friday March 17 at the VC Tennis Center. Doubles play will begin at 2:00 pm.
