Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts continued their strong play Saturday, advancing to the championship match in the Western State Conference doubles tournament with a semifinal win. Meanwhile Belladora Moga and Laura Rubio qualified for state with a victory in the backdraw. In singles play, Lieb moved into the semifinals before bowing out of the draw and Elaerts won her backdraw match to qualify for state.
Lieb and Elaerts won their only doubles match of the day 6-3, 6-1 over a duo from College of the Canyons. The victory moved them into the championship match.
Meanwhile, in the backdraw of the doubles bracket, Moga and Rubio posted an 8-1 win over a team from Bakersfield to qualify for the state championships later this month at The Ojai. Alexis Schmidt and Elizabeth Nguyen qualified for state Friday.
In singles play, Lieb won her quarterfinal match over an opponent from LA Mission, 6-2, 6-1 before falling to the draw's top seed from Santa Monica, 6-1, 6-1.
In the backdraw, Elaerts qualified for state with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-3 triumph over a player from Bakersfield. Moga fell short in a pair of matches in the backdraw.
Lieb and Elaerts will play from the WSC title in doubles on Tuesday April 4 at 4:30 pm at the VC Tennis Center.
