Softball Clinches Share of WSC Title
April 17, 2025The VC softball team clinched at least a share of the Western State Conference North Division championship Thursday with a 12-2 5-inning victory over visiting Oxnard. Sophia Valencia was 2-3 at the plate, including a triple, with a run batted in and a run scored while Madison Shay had a home run and a single while knocking in three runs and scoring twice. Jennie Jacinto also recorded three RBI with two hits and scored two runs. Bryanne Magana pitched a complete game to pick up the win in the circle. -
Softball Drops Extra Inning Game, WSC Race Tightens
April 15, 2025The Pirate softball team dropped a 9-7 extra-inning decision at Moorpark Tuesday, tightening the Western State Conference race with a week left to play. Aubrey Aguirre was 3-4 at the plate with one run batted in and one run scored and Madison Shay had three hits including a home run and a double with two RBI and a run scored. Baylany Magana got the start in the circle, pitching five complete innings giving up four runs, three earned, while striking out four. -
Pirates Hold Off Cougars for Non-Conference Win
April 11, 2025The VC softball team held off a late Canyons rally Friday afternoon, defeating the Cougars 2-1 in a non-conference game in Santa Clarita. Savanna Higgins was 1-3 on the day with a run batted in and a run scored while Jennie Jacinto score the Pirates' other run in the game. Bryanne Magana recorded a hit with an RBI at the plate and scattered seven hits over seven innings while allowing the one run fromthe pitcher's circle to pick up the complete-game win. -
Baylany Magana Dominant as VC Moves Closer to Crown
April 10, 2025Ventura College pitcher Baylany Magana gave up one hit and struck out five Thursday in the Pirates' 4-0 shutout victory over Cuesta at the VC Softball Complex. The freshman also had a hit, knocked in a run, and scored once to lead the team to a two-game lead in the conference standings wit three games remaining in the regular season. Alyssa Castaneda knocked out three hits and scored a run and Jennie Jacinto recorded one hit with an RBI. -
Softball Takes Control of WSC North
April 07, 2025The VC softball team earned some redemption Monday with an 11-1 victory at Santa barbara, atoning for lossto the Vaqueros earlier this season. Erika Sanchez recorded three runs batted in with a hit and a pair of walks to lead the effort while Aubrey Aguirre scored twice in the game. Savanna Higgins had a pair of singles with a run scored. With the win, the Pirates moved two games ahead of the field with four remaining in the Western State Conference race. -
Ventrua Blanks LA Valley, 11-0
April 04, 2025The Ventura College softball team used a six-run third inning to propel them to an 11-0 shutout victory over visiting Los Angeles Valley Friday afternoon. Madison Shay knocked in three runs while Sofia Valencia and Baylany Magana each recorded twi hits on the day. Ba. Magana also started in the circle, gaving up one hit through four innings of work to pick up the win. -
Softball Pounds Santa Monica, 20-1
April 01, 2025The Ventura College softball team exploded for 20 runs and 21 hits Tuesday in their 20-1 pounding of Santa Monica. Baylany Magana was 5-5 at the plate, including a double, with five runs scored while Jennie Jacinto had four hits, including a pair of doubles, with five runs batted in and two runs scored. Madison Shay had a triple, two singles and a walk and scored twice with three RBI. Bryanne Magana recorded an out-of the-park home run in the rout. -
Pirates Move in to First withShutout Win
March 27, 2025The VC softball team moved into first polace in the Western State Conference standings Thursday with a 7-0 shutout victory over Hancock. Savannah Higgins was 2-3 at the plate, including a home run, with two runs batted in and a run scored while Baylany Magana limited the Bulldogs to three hits with eight strikeouts over seven innings to earn the win. VC's win coupled with Santa Barbara's loss on Thursday puts the Pirates alone atop the WSC standings. -
Bryanne Magana Pitches 5 Perfect Innings in Win
March 25, 2025VC pitcher Bryanne Magana faced the minimum of 15 batters over five innings of work, giving way to relief pitcher Erick Sanchez as the Pirates' softball team blanked Oxnard 5-0 Tuesday. Aubrey Aguirre had two hits, including a double, wit three runs batted in and Baylany Magana was 3-4 with two runs scored in the victory. -
Softball Splits Friday Double Header
March 21, 2025The VC softball team dropped the opener, but came back in the nightcap in a double header Friday against Southwestern. The Pirates fell 6-4 before coming back to win 8-3 against the Jaguars at the VC Softball Complex. Madison Shay had five hits and four runs batted in on the day and Baylany Magana recorded four hits and scored a pair of runs. Ba. Magana also pitched a complete game in the nightcap to pick up the victory in the circle. -
Magana Pitches Gem, VC Shuts Out Raiders
March 20, 2025Pirate freshman Baylany Magana pitched another gem Thursday, scattering three hits over seven innings while striking out five as Ventura defeated Moorpark 3-0 at the VC Softball Complex. Bryanne Magana had two hits, including an RBI double, and Madison Shay knocked in two runs as VC remained in a tie for first place in the Western State Conference North Division standings. -
Pirates Back on Track with 10-0 Win
March 18, 2025Alyssa Castaneda homered and the Pirates softball team exploded for nine runs in the top of the fifth to win by a 10-0 run-rule decision at Cuesta Tuesday afternoon. Baylany Magana, Aubrey Aguirre and Castaneda each totaled a pair of hits for VC while Castaneda, Dakota Moore and Erika Sanchez all had two runs batted in on the day. The victory ended a three-game losing streak for Ventura, who moved to 14-6 on the year and 3-1 in Western State Conference play. -
Pirates Fall Late to Santa Barbara
March 17, 2025The VC softball team gave up a late rally and dropped a 5-2 decision against Santa Barbara Monday. Aubrey Aguirre recorded a pair of doubles and a run batted in while Madison Shay and Erika Sanchez also had two hits each in the setback. Bryanne Magana gave up eight hits, but yielded five runs in the circle for the Pirates (13-5, 2-1). -
Pirates Open WSC North Play with Big Win
March 06, 2025The Pirate softball team opened Western State Conference North Division play Thursday with an 18-3 run-rule victory over visiting Santa Monica. Madison Shay had a home run and a single with two runs batted in while scoring twice to lead the way for VC (12-3, 1-0). Bryanne Magana knocked out two doubles and a single and scored three runs and Baylany Magana recorded a pair of hits with two RBI and two runs scored. Lily Jimenez pitched a complete game to pick up the win in the circle. -
Pirates Retrun Home for Doubleheader Sweep
February 28, 2025The VC softball team returned home for the first time in a month in style, sweeping past Victor Valley in a pair of five-inning games. The Pirates scored 27 runs on 23 hits on the day, led by Jennie Jacinto with five hits, including a double, and six runs batted in. Madison Shay had three hits, including a home run and a double, and seven RBI in the two games. Baylany Magana, Aubrey Aguirre, Lily Jimenez and Bryanne Magana shared pitching duties for Ventura. -
Ventura Sweeps Double Header at Chaffey
February 26, 2025The VC softball team swept a double header at Chaffey, 9-3 and 5-2. Baylany Magana recorded six hits, including a triple, with two RBI and two runs scored in the sweep and she pitched a complete game in the nightcap, allowing two runs over seven innings. Madison Shay had three triples, a double and a single with two RBI and four runs scored on the day. -
Softball Splits Pair in Menifee
February 25, 2025The VC softball team split a pair of games Tuesday in Menifee, defeating Imperial Valley 13-6 before falling in extra innings to host Mt.San Jacinto, 5-4. Shortstop Madison Shay was 4-5 at the plate in the first game, including a double and a triple, with three runs batted in and a run scored. Lily Jimenez pitched into the fifth inning, allowing six runs, three earned, to pick up the win for the Pirates. -

February 20, 2025The VC softball team dropped an 11-3 decision at Antelope Valley Thursday in Lancaster. Aubrey Aguirre recorded three hits with a run batted in while Savanna Higgins, Lily Jimenez and Madison Shay produced two hits each. Higgins and Jimenez each had an RBI in the contest. -
Softball Claims 2-1 Victory at Citrus
February 18, 2025The VC softball team won another pitchers' duel Tuesday with a 2-1 victory at Citrus College. Baylany Magana pitched a gem, allowing one hit and one run while striking out 10 Owl batters. Savanna Higgins led the offense batting 2-2 with a double, a walk and a run scored and Bryanne Magana had an RBI double. Dakota Moore also had a pair of singles and Jennie Jacinto scored a run. -
Magana Pitches 2-Hitter, Pirates Shut Out Cal Lu
February 10, 2025VC softball pitcher Bryanne Magana yielded two hits, walked three and struck out two in the Pirates' 3-0 shutout win at Cal Luthern Monday in Thousand Oaks. Madison Shay hit a pair of doubles and a triple, knocking in all three runs for VC in the victory. Baylany Magana had a hit and a walk and scored a run for Ventura. -

January 31, 2025Behind a two-hit performance by pitcher Bryanne Magana, the Pirates softball team shutout visiting Pasadena 6-0 Friday afternoon at the VC Softball Complex. Alyssa Castaneda recorded three hits, including two doubles, with a run batted in and Baylany Magana scored twice from a pair of hits to lead the victory. Bry. Magana pitched a complete game while striking out three to pick up her third win on the year. -
Pirate Softball Opens 3-1 at Glendale Tournament
January 24, 2025The VC softball tem opened the 2025 season with a strong 3-1 record at the David "Hawk" Wilder Memorial Tournament in Glendale Friday and Saturday. The Pirates defeated LA Valley, Modesto and Cerro Coso while dropping a 1-0 decision to San Diego Mesa. Bryanne Magana led the offense with eight hits and five runs batted in in the four games and Jennie Jacinto recorded five hits and seven RBI. Baylany Magana started all four games in the pitcher's circle for the Pirates. -
VC Athletics 13th in California in NATYCAA Cup
August 12, 2024The Ventura College Athletic Department claimed its 14th Top-13 finish in 19 years, placing 13th in California in the 2023-24 all-sports National Association of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup standings. Pirate Athletics totaled 106 points overall, besting its 105.5 points earned in 2022-23 that placed 12th. Ventura was also 17th for the second straight year in the Daktronics Cup Standings with two-years schools from California, Oregon and Washington. -
VC Lists 70 transfers to 4-Year Schools
August 01, 2024The Ventura College Athletic Department is proud to announce the transfer of 71 student athletes to four-year schools following their time with the Pirates. 48 of those transfers plan to continue their sport with 34 earning athletic scholarships. The VC class of 2024 will transfer to 48 different schools in 19 different states across the country. Additionally, 17 of the Pirate alumni have earned academic scholarships at their new schools. -
Julia Tamai Named Head Coach for Pirate Softball
July 03, 2024Ventura College Pirate Athletics is pleased to announce Julia Tamai has been named the Pirates’ new head softball coach. Tamai most recently was the head coach at Oxnard’s new Del Sol High School, directing formation of the Jaguars’ new program for the past year. Tamai previously spent 11 years as an assistant coach at UC Santa Barbara from 2010-2017 and 2019-2022. -
Higgins, Jacinto Earn All-WSC Honors
May 21, 2024Pirate freshmen Savanna Higgins and Jennie Jacinto have both been named All-Western State Conference by in voting by the WSC North Division softball coaches following the 2024 regular season. Higgins earned first team all-WSC honors while Jacinto was named second team all-conference. -

April 23, 2024The Pirate softball team closed he 2024 season with a bang, posting a 14-3 triumph at Santa Monica Tuesday afternoon. Savanna Higgins had a double and a triple with a run scored and two runs batted in and Jennie Jacinto had three hits and a walk with one RBI and three runs scored. Chelsea Trejo allowed three runs, one earned, over seven innings worked in the pitcher's circle for Ventura, who finished the season with seven wins in their final 13 games. -

April 18, 2024The VC softball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and had the potential game-tying run at the plate with no outs before falling to Allan Hancock 6-4 Thursday in their 2024 home finale. Haylie Lopez had a pair of hits, including a two-RBI single in the final at-bat to lead Ventura. Chelsea Trejo and Jennie Jacinto also recorded two hits each in the setback. -

April 16, 2024The Ventura College softball team captured a 4-2 victory at Oxnard on Tuesday, sweeping the season series against the Condors. Jennie Jacinto led the way with a pair of hits, a stolen base and two runs scored while Savanna Higgins was 2-3 with a sacrifice fly, one run scored and one run batted in. Chelsea Trejo went the distance in the pitcher's circle to pick up the win for the Pirates. -
