VC Athletics Transfers 36 Student Athletes to 4-Year Schools in '21
August 11, 2021In a year like no other with online learning, season cancelations and COVID-shortened schedules, Ventura College Athletics still transferred 36 student athletes to four-year schools for the 2020-21 academic year, as of August 10. Of those transfers, 19 plan on continuing competing in their sport(s) across all divisions of intercollegiate competition. There were 15 transfers who received athletic scholarships while 20 received academic aid to their new school. -
Gallegos, Tafoya Named All-SoCal in Softball
June 28, 2021Isabel Gallegos and Kat Tafoya each earned All-Southern California post-season honors as named by the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association this month. Gallegos earned the distinction as an outfielder while Tafoya was named all-SoCal as a pitcher. -
Tafoya Pitcher of the Year, 6 Others Named All-WSC
June 16, 2021VC sophomore pitcher Kat Tafoya was named Western State Conference Pitcher of the Year in voting by the conference coaches earlier this month. Meanwhile outfielders Isabel Gallegos and Celeste Pacheco along with infielder Jalen Barron all earned first team All-WSC selections. Leanna De La Cruz, Abby Strong and Morgan Albertsen all were named second team all-conference. -
Pirates Excel Academically in 2021 Spring Semester
June 08, 2021Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in the spring semester, achieving an overall 3.22 grade point average. A total of 106 Pirates earned Dean's List honors by posting at least a 3.5 GPA in 12 or more units of study, with 49 of them recording a perfect 4.0 GPA of all A's. Of VC's 19 intercollegiate athletic teams, 17 earned an overall GPA of 3.0 or better. -
Ventura Takes Two in Season Finale
May 29, 2021The Ventura College softball team won a pair of one-run games against Antelope Valley Saturday to close their 2021 Covid-shortened season, 2-1 and 3-1, at the VC Softball Complex. Jalen Barron had the big hit in the opener, a two-RBI double in the fifth inning, while Abygail Hall delivered the go-ahead two-RBI single in the fifth inning of the nightcap. Kat Tafoya and Morgan Albertsen each had solid games in the circle, respectively, for the Pirates (12-6, 11-5), who won eight of their final 10 games. -
VC Softball Splits Twin-Bill at Antelope Valley
May 27, 2021The Pirates' softball team split a double-header Thursday at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, dropping the opener to the Marauders 5-0 before coming back with a 10-2 six-inning victory in the nightcap. Jalen Barron had the big hit for Ventura (10-6, 9-5), a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth in Game 2 to push the Pirates to the run-rule triumph. Serena Carmona was 3-3, including a double, with a run scored and two runs batted in in the second game. -
Pirates Down Condors in Run-Rule Victory
May 22, 2021On the strength of a five-run first inning, the Pirates' softball team defeated visiting Oxnard 9-1 Saturday afternoon in a five-inning run-rule game. Jalen Barron smacked a pair of doubles with two runs scored and two runs batted in and Courtney Terrazas was 2-3 with a double and three RBI to lead Ventura *905, 7-4). Morgan Albertsen pitched a complete game, scattering three hits and allowing one run to the cross-county rivals. -
Tafoya, Gallegos Lead Pirates Past Oxnard
May 19, 2021VC pitcher Kat Tafoya pitched a complete game 2-hit shutout at Oxnard College on Wednesday, leading the Pirate softball team to a 7-0 win over the Condors. Isabel Gallegos was 3-4 at the plate, including a home run and a triple, scoring three runs with four runs batted in to lead Ventura (8-5, 7-4) to their third straight win and their fourth triumph in the last five games. -
Softball Sweeps, Takes Three of Four From Bakersfield
May 15, 2021The Pirate softball team swept a double header in Bakersfield Saturday, winning by scores of 10-6 and 15-10, respectively. The two victories gave VC three wins in the last four games, all against the Renegades. Morgan Albertsen pitched a complete game in Game 1 and threw five innings in relief in Game 2 to pick up both wins on the day. Leanna De La Cruz had six hits on the day while Isabel Gallegos and Courtney Terrazas each hit a home run for the Pirates (7-5). -
VC Softball Splits With Visiting Bakersfield
May 13, 2021The VC softball team sent 17 batters to the plate scoring 11 runs on 10 hits in the fourth inning alone in Game 1 of Thursday's double-header with Bakersfield College en route to a 14-3 run-rule win in five innings. They could not duplicate that success in Game 2, however, falling 7-3 to the Renegades at the VC Softball Complex. Celeste Pacheco and Jalen Barron each had four hits on the day to lead the Pirates (5-5, 4-4). -
Another DH Split for Pirate Softball Team Thursday
May 06, 2021The Pirate softball team played its fourth double-header of the season on Thursday, and for the fourth time they split the two games. VC (4-4) defeated visiting Cuesta in game one of the twin-bill at the VC Softball Complex 10-8 in eight innings before dropping the second contest 6-3. Courtney Terrazas had four hits, two runs batted in and scored three times on the day to lead Ventura. -
Wild Saturday for VC Softball at Moorpark
May 01, 2021The Ventura College softball team had a wild double-header at Moorpark College on Saturday. The Pirates were down 9-0 after three innings before scoring nine runs in the fourth, eventually defeating the Raiders 14-12. In the nightcap VC led 9-3 before falling to Moorpark 12-11 on a walk-off home run. Abby Strong had six runs batted in on the day, including a grand slam home run, while Isabel Gallegos also had a grand slam and five RBI in the two games. -
Ventura Splits Double-Header with Moorpark
April 29, 2021The Ventura College softball team split a pair of games with rival Moorpark on Thursday at the VC Softball Complex. The Pirates (2-2) yielded a four-run seventh inning to the Raiders in the opener, falling by a 6-4 score before coming back to take a 3-2 win in the nightcap. Jalen Barron had four hits on the day, including a triple, with two runs scored and a run batted in while Abby Strong belted out three hits. -
Pirate Softball Splits Season-Opening Twin Bill
April 22, 2021The VC softball team made it back to the field for their 2021 Covid-season opener Thursday, splitting a double-header with visiting Mt. San Antonio College. The Pirates dropped the opener 6-0 before rallying late in the nightcap for a 4-3 victory. Aleska Page had three hits on the day, including a double, a run scored and a run batted in to lead the offense while Isabel Gallegos had an RBI triple and played a strong defensive game in left field. -
Pirate Spring Sports Return to Action
April 08, 2021It has been 392 days since the Pirates competed in an intercollegiate contest, but in two days they return. On Saturday April 10 the VC baseball team hosts Cuesta College for a double-header and the Pirates' men's tennis team travels to Westmont College to usher in Ventura College's post-Covid athletic schedule. All 10 of Ventura's spring sports are scheduled to return to competition in the coming weeks, although fans will not be allowed inside venues due to county and state health department restrictions. -
COVID-19 Update, VCCCD "Opts-In" For Spring II Seasons
March 09, 2021After opting out of Spring I season sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) will “opt-in” for the upcoming California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Spring II season. The decision is based on CCCAA COVID-19 guidelines and input from the athletic directors, coaches and athletic staff of Moorpark, Oxnard and Ventura colleges. The Spring II season includes men’s and women’s competitive sports and begins April 10. The length of the season varies by sport. -

99 Students Athletes on Dean's List; 13 Teams Above 3.0
January 07, 2021Student athletes at Ventura College continued to achieve academic honors in the fall 2020 semester with 99 of them earning a spot on VC's Dean's List by posting a 3.5 or better grade point average in 12 or more units. Of those honores, 47 earned perfect 4.0 GPA's signifying all A's in their classes. Meanwhile, 13 of the Pirates' 19 intercollegiate athletic teams achieved an overall GPA of 3.0 or better. -
Day of Giving Comes to VC Athletics Tuesday Dec. 1
November 23, 2020After Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the VC Athletic Department is hosting a Day of Giving on Tuesday Dec. 1. The fundraiser conducted through text messaging or online will benefit Pirate Athletics, or any of VC's 19 sports teams. The goal for the day is to have at least 50 individual donors and raise at least $1,000 combined. -
VC Athletics Partners With ASVC in Voter Registration Drive
September 25, 2020Tuesday September 22 was National Voter Registration Day. In conjunction with that day, the Ventura College Athletic Department has paired with the Associated Students of Ventura College to encourage 100 percent voter registration among eligible student athletes and 100 percent registration among VC students. The effort is also encouraging all students to become educated voters and participate in this fall's election. -
Student Athlete Academic Achievement Honored on Dean's Lists
September 14, 2020Despite the movement of classes online and the cancellation of most of the spring season, student athletes at Ventura College continued to achieve academically in 2019-20. In the fall, 99 student athletes made the Dean's list, signifying a grade point average of 3.5 or above, while 107 student athletes were honored on the Dean's list in the spring 2020 semester.
