Four Pirates Headline First Team All-WSC List
May 24, 2019Four Pirate softball players earned All-Western State Conference accolades for the 2019 season, as selected by conference coaches last month. Sophomores Adriana Clemons and Kaylee Neal both earned their second consecutive first-team nods while freshmen Serrina Cabral and Kali Brown also were named first team all-conference. The Pirates finished the season with a 13-3 WSC North Division mark, good for second place in the standings, and were 22-17 overall, qualifying for the Southern California Regional Playoffs. -
VC Softball Season Ends in SoCal Regionals
April 30, 2019The Ventura College softball team's 2019 season came to an end on Thursday with a 5-1 loss at Southwestern College in Chula Vista in the play-in round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs. Kali Brown had a pair of hits for the Pirates (22-17) and Kayla Garcia had a hit and an RBI. Serrina Cabral, Marisa Felix and Adriana Clemons also recorded hits in the season finale for VC. -
VC Softball Into the Playoffs, Tavel to Southwestern
April 27, 2019The Ventura College softball team is headed to the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Pirates (22-16) received the No. 18 seed and will head to No. 15 Southwestern College (25-14) on Tuesday for the play-in round. This is the fourth straight season Ventura has qualified for postseason play. -
Softball Wins At Campton in Make-Up Game
April 22, 2019Buoyed by a five-run first inning, the Pirate softball team came home from Compton with an 11-2 six-inning victory in a make-up game rescheduled from Feb. 22. Adriana Clemons had three hits, including a double, with one run scored and one run batted in. Kaylee Neal also recorded three hits with a run scored and an RBI while Marissa Felix had a hit and a walk, two runs scored and three runs batted in. Jessica Mendoza pitched a complete game giving up seven hitsand allowing two earned runs for the Pirates (21-16, 12-3). -
Pirates Secure Playoff Spot with Walk-Off Win
April 18, 2019In a key match-up that went back and forth all day, the Pirate softball team secured a place in the upcoming CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs with a dramatic 6-5 walk-off victory over rival Moorpark College at the VC Softball Complex Thursday afternoon. Kali Brown knocked in the game-tying run with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning before scoring the game-winner on Serrina Cabral's single to punctuate the final-inning comeback. With the win, VC (20-16, 21-3) moves two games ahead of Moorpark for second place in the Western State Conference North Division with one game remaining, securing the league's second automatic playoff berth. -
Ventura Routs Oxnard in Mercy-Rule Game
April 16, 2019The Ventura College softball team was hitting on all cylinders Tuesday afternoon in their 15-1 5-inning defeat of host Oxnard College. The Pirates scored five runs in the first inning, one in the second, then posted nine in the third for the mercy-rule victory. Kayla Garcia led the way offensively with a pair of hits and three runs batted in while Cassidy Craig had two hits and two RBI. Adriana Clemons also knocked out a pair of base hits for VC ( 19-16, 11-3). -
VC Softball Drops Two Non-Conference Games
April 13, 2019The Ventura College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games on Saturday, losing 2-1 to East Los Angeles and 12-1 to state No. 9-ranked Fullerton 12-1 in games played at East LA in Monterey Park. Kali Brown and Kayla Garcia each had a pair of hits on the day for the Pirates (18-16, 11-3). -
Pirates Complete Comeback to Walk-Off Cuesta
April 11, 2019The Ventura College softball team came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat visiting Cesta 3-2 in walk-off fashion Thursday afternoon at the VC Softball Complex. Adriana Clemons slapped an RBI double to right field to score Serrina Cabral from second base for the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh inning. clemons had three hits and two runs batted in for the game and Cabral also recorded three hits. Jessica Mendoza went the distance for Ventura (18-14, 10-3) in the circle to pick up the victory. -
VC Softball Wins on the Road at Hancock
April 04, 2019The Ventura College softball team returned to the win column Thursday with an 8-2 victory at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria. Marisa Felix had two hits, including a home run, and three runs batted in to lead Ventura while Kali Brown was 2-4, including a triple, with two runs scored. Serrina Cabral also had two hits, including a double, and a pair of RBI in the game for Ventura (16-14, 8-3). Jessica Mendoza picked up the victory in the pitcher's circle with the complete game. -
Softball Falls at First-Place Bakersfield
April 02, 2019The VC softball team traveled to first-place Bakersfield College on Tuesday afternoon, falling t the Renegades 8-0 in six innings. The Pirates were limited to three hits in the game, singles by Serrina Cabral, Adriana Clemons and Kaylee Neal. -
VC Drops Contest at Pasadena
March 29, 2019The Ventura College softball team dropped a 7-0 decision at Pasadena City College on Friday. Marisa Felix had a pair of hits for Ventura (15-13, 7-2) while Adriana Clemons and Kaylee Neal each had a double. Serrina Cabral and Kayla Garcia also recorded hits in the game. -
Ventura Outlasts Santa Monica for 4-3 Victory
March 28, 2019The Pirate softball team outlasted the hosts Santa Monica College Corsairs Thursday afternoon, posting a 4-3 Western State Conference North Division victory on the road. Kayla Garcia went the distance in the pitcher's circle, and was 3-3 at the plate with a walk and a double with one run batted in. Marisa Felix had a 2-run home run for Ventura (15-12, 7-2). Kali Brown was 2-4 with a double and an RBI. -
Softball Stays With No. 8 El Camino
March 27, 2019In a make-up of a Feb. 11 rained out contest, the Ventura College softball team dropped a close decision at state No. 8-ranked El Camino Wednesday afternoon in Torrance. The Pirates mandaged just five hits against the Warriors,including a double by Kaylee Neal, but never was able to string any together in the shutout loss. Jessica Mendoza pitched well, scattering seven hits but allowing three runs in the loss for VC (14-12, 6-2). -
Pirates Win Three in Spring Tournament
March 23, 2019The Pirate softball team completed a perfect slate at the Ventura Spring Tournament, defeating Long Beach on Saturday before posting wins against Hartnell and Victor Valley on Sunday. Marisa Felix highlighted the weekend with two home runs over the left field fence in the tournament finale against Victor Valley Sunday afternoon. -
VC Ends Skid at Santa Barbara
March 22, 2019The Pirate softball team ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 Western State Conference victory at Santa Barbara City College Friday. Kali Brown led VC (11-11, 6-2) with three hits while Serrina Cabral knocked out a pair of hits with a run batted in and a run scored. Jessica Mendoza also had a pair of hits in the game, and scattered 11 hits from the pitcher's circle in picking up the victory. -
Softball Falls to Another Late Rally
March 19, 2019The Ventura College softball team had a 5-0 lead in the middle of the fifth inning Tuesday at Moorpark before giving up seven runs over the next two innings, falling to the Raiders 7-5 in Western State Conference play. Serrina Cabral had a pair of hits and scored twice to lead VC (10-11, 5-2) while Kali Brown had two hits with one run scored. Marisa Felix recorded two runs batted in. -
Pirate Softball Drops Three on Weekend Trip to San Diego
March 15, 2019The Ventura College softball team traveled to San Diego for the weekend, dropping a 2-1 decision Friday at San Diego City College in eight innings before falling twice at San Diego Mesa College on Saturday, 8-0 in six innings and 8-6. Marisa Felix had three hits in the three games and Jessica Mendoza and Kayla Garcia shared pitching duties. -
Ventura Continues Winning Ways
March 14, 2019The Pirate softball team continued their winning ways Thursday with a 10-2 5-inning victory over visiting Oxnard. Kayla Garcia led a balanced VC attack with three hits and two runs batted in while Jessica Mendoza was 2-2 with an RBI. The Pirates (10-7, 5-1) pounded out 15 hits on the day. Garcia and Jessica Mendoza shared duties in the circle to pick up the victory. -
Pirates Rebound With Big Road Win
March 12, 2019The Pirate softball team rebounded from its first Western State Conference loss of the season on Monday with a big win on the road at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. Kayla Garcia had three hits, including a pair of doubles,scored two runs and batted in two more to lead the Ventura to a 10-1 victory over the Cougars. Marisa Felix knocked out three singles and a double while driving in two scores and crossing the plate once and Jessica Mendoza recorded two RBI for Ventura (9-7, 4-1). -
VC Softball Takes WSC Contest vs. Hancock
March 05, 2019The Ventura College softball team continued Western State Conference play with a walk-off 8-0 run-rule win over visiting Allan Hancock College in six innings Tuesday. Kaylee Neal was 4-4 with a double and an RBI and Kali Brown was also 4-4 while scoring four runs for the PIrates (6-6, 2-0). Jessica Mendoza had a bases-loaded triple in the first inning to get VC off on a positive note. -
Late Cerritos Rally Takes Game from Pirates
March 01, 2019The Ventura College softball team had a 3-1 lead headed to the sixth inning at Cerritos, only to see if evaporate as the Falcons walked off with a 4-3 win in seven. Serrina Cabral had two doubles and scored twice and Kali Brown had two hits and one run batted in for Ventura (5-6) in the narrow road loss. -
Softball Scores Three in the Sixth for 4-1 Win
February 26, 2019The Pirate softball team scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, then closed he door on visiting Santa Monica for the 4-1 victory in their Western State Conference opener at the VC Softball Complex Tuesday afternoon. The Pirates had seven hits as a team, including one by Cassidy Craig who also recorded two runs batted in. Jessica Mendoza also had a hit and an RBI. Kayla Garcia picked up the victory in the pitcher's circle. -
Ventura Comeback Bid Not Enough Against Antelope Valley
February 21, 2019The Pirate softball team trailed 4-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning before scoring two runs and loading the bases before falling to visiting Antelope Valley 4-2 on Thursday afternoon at the VC Softball Complex. Adriana Clemons and Marisa Felix each had RBI singles in the final frame and each had two hits in the game. Jessica Mendoza worked all seven innings in the circle, scattering six hits with three strikeouts while allowing four runs, three earned. -
Pirates Fall in Extra-Inning Thriller
February 19, 2019After spotting visiting Los Angeles Mission College a run in the top of the first inning, the Pirate softball team scored in the bottom of the sixth to force extra innings before falling to the Eagles 3-1 in a thriller Tuesday afternoon at the VC Softball Complex. Jessica Mendoza tripled in the sixth and scored the game-tying run, and also pitched eight solid innings for VC (4-4). Kali Brown and Adriana Clemons each had two hits in the game. -
Pirate Softball Comeback Falls Short at Santa Ana
February 12, 2019After yielding four unearned runs in falling behind 7-0, the Pirate softball team mounted a comeback that fell just short in their 7-5 decision at Santa Ana Tuesday afternoon in Orange County. VC gave up unearned single scores in the scores in the second and third innings before allowing two more unearned scores in a five-run fourth for the 7-0 deficit. Ventura (4-2) scored five times in the final three frames to make things close. Adriana Clemons had a pair of hits, including a double, and two runs batted in to lead VC. -
Late Santiago Canyon Rally Edges Pirates
February 08, 2019The VC softball team had state pre-season No. 10 Santiago Canyon right where they wanted them until a late rally lifted the Hawks past the Pirates. VC held a 2-1 advantage until SCC scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to set the final 3-2 margin. Kali Brown doubled to knock in both Ventura runs in the third inning to give the Pirates a 2-1 edge. Marissa Felix and Serrina Cabral also recorded hits for VC (4-2). -
Softball Claims Home Opener Over Canyons
January 29, 2019The Ventura College softball team played small ball Tuesday, taking advantage of lead-off runners reaching base in defeating visiting Canyons 4-1 at the VC Softball Complex in the Pirates' 2019 home opener. Kayla Garcia had two hits with a run batted in at the plate and pitched seven innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out three Cougar batters. Marisa Felix also had a pair of hits for the Pirates (4-1). -
Softball Splits Final Day of Tournament at Glendale
January 26, 2019The Pirate softball team split its final two games of the David "Hawk" Wilder Memorial Tournament Saturday in Glendale, defeating Mt. San Jacinto 8-0 before falling to San Diego Mesa 9-1. Adriana Clemons had three hits to help pace the Pirates (3-1) while Kali Brown also recorded three hits. Jessica Mendoza went the distance in the circle to pick up the win against MSJC. -
Softball Opens Season With Two Big Wins
January 25, 2019The Pirate softball team opened the 2019 campaign with a pair of mercy-rule wins Friday at the Dave "Hawk" Wilder Memorial Tournament in Glendale. Ventura defeated Golden West 18-0 in the opener before coming back with a 13-1 triumph over Barstow in game two of the day. Kayla Garcia pitched six shutout innings with nine strikeouts while yielding four hits. Adriana Clemons and Marisa Felix hit home runs for the Pirates (2-0) and Kaylee Neal had five hits on the day.
