VC Athletics 13th in California in NATYCAA CupAugust 12, 2024The Ventura College Athletic Department claimed its 14th Top-13 finish in 19 years, placing 13th in California in the 2023-24 all-sports National Association of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup standings. Pirate Athletics totaled 106 points overall, besting its 105.5 points earned in 2022-23 that placed 12th. Ventura was also 17th for the second straight year in the Daktronics Cup Standings with two-years schools from California, Oregon and Washington.

VC Lists 70 transfers to 4-Year SchoolsAugust 01, 2024The Ventura College Athletic Department is proud to announce the transfer of 71 student athletes to four-year schools following their time with the Pirates. 48 of those transfers plan to continue their sport with 34 earning athletic scholarships. The VC class of 2024 will transfer to 48 different schools in 19 different states across the country. Additionally, 17 of the Pirate alumni have earned academic scholarships at their new schools.

Women's Tennis Earns ITA Academic HonorsJuly 30, 2024The Ventura College women's tennis team earned All-Academic Team honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association last week. The Pirates were one of 21 JUCO women's tennis teams from around the country recognized by the ITA for academic excellence. Additionally, VC had four student athletes awarded Scholar Athlete awards for outstanding individual accomplishment in the classroom.

Aguiar Earns All-WSC Award for Women's TennisMay 03, 2024VC freshman Chrystelle Aguiar has been named second team All-Western State Conference in her No. 5 singles slot in voting by the conference coaches before the WSC Singles and Doubles Tournament last month. Aguilar is the lone Pirate to be named All-WSC in women's tennis for 2024.

DeRosa, Moga Compete at The OjaiApril 25, 2024The VC women's tennis season came to a close Thursday as sophomores Bella DeRosa and Bella Moga competed in the 3C2A State Championships at The Ojai. Moga competed in the singles competition and the duo played in the doubles draw on the final weekend of the season.

Schmidt Makes Strong Run toward StateApril 05, 2024VC women's tennis sophomore Alexis Schmidt made a strong run at qualifying for the 3C2A State Championships Friday, falling one victory short of making it to The Ojai. After falling in her Round of 32 match of the Western State Conference Championships Tuesday, by two points in a super-tiebreaker, Schmidt won three matches Friday in the back draw before falling in the final match.

Moga Makes State in SinglesApril 04, 2024VC's Bella Moga qualified for the 3C2A State Championships in singles play Thursday at the Western State Conference Championships at the VC Tennis Center. VC's No. 3 player upset the draw's No. 5 seed in a super tiebreaker to move into the Round of 16 and secure her spot at The Ojai later this month.

Ventura Falls at Canyons in Make-Up DateMarch 25, 2024The Pirates' women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision at College of the canyons Monday in a Western State Conference make-up from March 14. Bella Moga won both points for Ventura on the day with a win in doubles with Bella DeRosa and a win in singles play.

Pirates Defeat Marauders in the DesertMarch 21, 2024The VC women's tennis team traveled to the High Desert Thursday, leaving Antelope Valley with a 7-2 victory over the Marauders in Western State Conference play. Bella DeRosa had a pair of comebacks in her singles match to win her second point of the day while Alexis Schmidt and Nicole Iannacone along with Bella Moga and DeRosa were all double winners for Ventura (7-9, 5-7).

VC Takes Win Over LA Mission at HomeMarch 12, 2024The Ventura College women's tennis team captured a 6-3 victory over Los Angeles Mission College Tuesday a month after falling to the Eagles in San Fernando by the same score. Alexis Schmidt and Nicole Iannacone won their doubles match before each won in singles to anchor the Pirate win while Beryllyn Paz and Chrystelle Aguiar were down 5-3 in doubles before coming back to post a 9-7 triumph.

Chrystelle Aguiar was also a double winner for the Pirates (5-6, 3-5) against the Vaqueros.

Women's Tennis Shows Improvement Against Santa MonicaMarch 05, 2024Five days ago, the VC women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision at Santa Monica. Tuesday, Ventura was able to cut into the deficit in their 6-3 setback against the Corsairs. Chrystelle Aguiar and Beryllyn Paz pulled out a hard fought win in No. 3 doubles before Nicole Iannacone and Aguiar each pulled out wins in Nos. 2 and 5 singles, respectively.

Missing a player, VC dropped the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches by default, leading to their shutout loss. Nicole Iannacone and Bella Moga played their No. 1 doubles match to an 8-3 score while Moga went to a tiebreaker in her No. 2 singles match before falling.

Chrystelle Aguiar captured the fourth point for the Pirates in singles.

Chrystelle Aguiar won her No. 5 singles match to clinch the triumph for Ventura (1-0). Alexis Schmidt and Bella Moga each eon a pair of points with wins in their doubles and singles matches, respectively.

VC Mourns Loss of Former Tennis Player/Coach Brad McClainDecember 20, 2023After a nearly three-year battle against cancer, former VC men's tennis conference champion and state champion assistant coach Brad McClain died Nov. 21, 2023 at his home in Ventura. He was 61. McClain most recently coached nine seasons assisting Nelson Emery with the Pirates' men's and women's tennis teams, 2008-2017. Co-Head Coach would probably be a more appropriate title as McClain was at the center of an ultimately successful time for Pirate tennis.
