  • W Tennis Ends Year at Ojai
    April 27, 2014
    The Ventura College women's tennis team ended its season with participation in the CCCAA State Championships held over the weekend in conjunction with The Ojai Tournament. The doubles team of Yannick Garcia and Jessica Moore had VC's deepest run in the draw, advancing to the round of 32 before falling to the #3-seeded duo from Diablo Valley in a 3-set thriller. Georgia Farrar and Karissa Coronell along with Lela Faasua and Dania Huacuja also played in doubles on day one of the tournament and Garcia made the round of 64 in singles.
  • VC Doubles Team Qualifies

    The doubles team of Lela Faasua and Dania Huacuja became the third VC women's doubles team to qualify for the CCCAA State Championships on Friday, making their way through the back draw. Meanwhile Yannick Garcia lost in the Western State Conference singles championship match, settling for the conference runner-up title at the VC Tennis Center. With the conference tournament complete, the Pirates have placed Garcia in the state finals in singles along with three doubles teams, Garcia and Jessica Moore, Georgia Farrar and Karissa Coronel, and Faasua and Huacuja.

    The Ventura College women's tennis team had multiple players qualify for The Ojai Tournament and the CCCAA State Championships to be held later this month in play on day two of the Western State Conference Championships Saturday at the VC Tennis Center. Yannick Garcia advanced to the WSC singles final while the doubles team of Georgia Farrar and Karissa Coronel moved through the back draw to qualify for state, as well. Meanwhile Lela Faasua and Dania Huacuja moved closer to The Ojai with a win in the doubles back draw.

    With team competition complete, the Ventura College women's tennis team began competing as individuals on day one of the Western State Conference Singles and Doubles Championships Friday at the VC Tennis Center. Yannick Garcia punched a ticket to the CCCAA State Championships at The Ojai Tournament and into the WSC quarterfinals with a pair of victories while the doubles team of Garcia and Jessica Moore qualified for state with a victory in the round of 16, advancing to the conference quarterfinals.
  • Pirates Drop Final WSC Match
    March 20, 2014
    The Pirates' women's tennis team lost their final Western State Conference match of the season to front-running Santa Monica College Thursday, 5-4. VC started off with two points by default in no. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles, but managed just two more points in the match. Yannick Garcia won in No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-2 and Georgia Farrar triumphed in No. 5 singles 7-6, 6-2. VC (6-6, 4-4) will finish in third place in the WSC race with an official conference record of 6-4 due to two forfeit wins over Bakersfield, who cancelled their team earlier in the season.

    On the road Tuesday, the Pirates' women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision at Glendale College. Yannick Garcia won her No. 1 singles match, 6-4, 7-5 and Georgia Farrar was victorious in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Farrar also partnered up with Karissa Coronel to triumph in No. 3 doubles, 9-8 (6).
  • Tennis Victorious at SBCC
    March 13, 2014
    Traveling up the coast to Santa Barbara, the Pirates' women's tennis team came home with a 7-2 victory over the host Vaqueros Thursday afternoon. Karissa Coronel helped lead the effort with a two and one victory in No. 4 singles and an 8-0 shutout in No. 3 doubles with Georgia Farrar. Farrar was a winner in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-1 as well. Jessica Moore won in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and teamed up with Yannick Garcia for a win in No. 1 doubles, 8-5. Brianna Rutan was a double-winner in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0, and in No. 2 doubles with Dania Huacuja, 9-7.
  • Pirates Sweep Marauders
    March 11, 2014
    The VC women's tennis team swept visiting Antelope Valley College on Tuesday at the VC Tennis Center, 9-0, in Western State Conference play. Dania Haucuja led the effort with a love, love win in No. 4 singles and she teamed with Brianna Rutan to win in No. 2 doubles, 8-2. Yannick Garcia (No. 2 singles) was victorious love and one and Jessica Moore (No. 1 singles) won 6-1, 6-1. The two also won their No. 1 doubles match 8-3. Karissa Coronel won at No. 3 singles and Georgia Farrar was victorious in No. 5 singles. AVC forfeited points in No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
  • VC Falls at Santa Monica
    March 06, 2014
    The Pirates' women's tennis team traveled to Santa Monica on Thursday in a make-up of their Feb. 27 match with the Corsairs. Unfortunately, the Pirates struggled on the court, dropping an 8-1 decision to the defending conference champions. Brianna Rutan managed the only point for the Pirates (4-4, 2-2) on the day, winning her No. 6 singles match, 6-2, 6-1.
  • WTennis Doubles Vaqueros
    February 20, 2014
    Winning their second straight match, the Pirates' women's tennis team defeated the Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros 6-3 Thursday at Camino Real Park in Ventura. Yannick Garcia and Jessica Moore won in No. 1 doubles, 8-5 before Moore topped her opponent in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Meanwhile, Karissa Coronel and Georgia Farrar were double winners in No. 3 doubles and in Nos. 4 and 5 singles. Lela Faasua earned VC's sixth point with a victory in No. 6 singles for Ventura (4-2, 2-0).
  • VC Tennis Sweeps Marauders

    In their Western State Conference opener, the Pirates' women's tennis team welcomed conference newcomer Antelope Valley with a 9-0 sweep in Lancaster Tuesday afternoon. The No. 1 doubles team of Yannick Garcia and Jessica Moore won 8-0 while Garcia and Georgia Farrar each posted love, love wins in Nos. 1 and 5 singles, respectively. Farrar and Karissa Coronell won in No. 2 doubles while Moore, Donia Haucuja and Coronell all posted victories in singles competition.
  • WTen Splits Pair in Challenge
    February 15, 2014
    Playing for the second consecutive day, the Pirates' women's tennis team split a pair of matches to finish up the VC North/South Challenge Saturday at the VC Tennis Center. Ventura defeated Chabot 6-3 in the morning before falling to Fresno City College 5-2 in the afternoon match. Karissa Coronel and Georgia Farrar combined to win both of their No. 3 doubles matches on the day, with Farrar also winning her No. 5 singles against Chabot. Yannick Garcia, Jessica Moore and Brianna Ruton all won singles matches in the morning contest.

    The Ventura College women's tennis team opened the VC North/South Challenge with a strong 5-1 victory over College of the Sequoias on Friday afternoon. Yannick Garcia and Jessica Moore picked up an 8-3 win in No. 1 doubles before they each earned a point in Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Karissa Coronel and Georgia Farrar won their No. 3 doubles match 8-4 and Brianna Ruton was victorious in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

    The Pirates' women's tennis team came up short in their 2014 season opener, falling 7-2 at Cerritos Friday afternoon. The No. 3 doubles team of Karissa Coronel and Dania Huacuja defeated their opponent 8-3 while Jessica Moore was victorious in No. 2 singles, 4-6, 7-5 (10-5). The Pirates will host the Ventura North/Souith Challenge at the VC Tennis Center and El Camino Real Park on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15.
