Pirate Student Athletes Strong in the Classroom
August 19, 2022Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2021-22, achieving an overall 3.26 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a solid 3.19 overall GPA in the spring. A total of 123 Pirates earned Dean's List honors in the fall of 2021 with a 3.5 GPA or better while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 51 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In the spring, 112 VC student athletes were featured on the Dean's List with 41 posting perfect GPA's. -
Albrent WSC POY, 10 others earn All-WSC Honors
June 08, 2022Ventura College softball's Lauren Albrent was name dthe Western State Conference North Division Player of the Year in voting by the conference coaches following the 2022 season. 10 other Pirates also earned All-WSC honors, including first team accolades to Ashlyn Flinchum, Isabel Gallegos, Ahlyssa Guzman and Abby Strong. -
VC Softball Eliminated in Heartbreaking Game 2 at Palomar
May 07, 2022The VC softball team was four outs away from forcing a decisive Game 3 in their first round playoff series at Palomar on Saturday. Then they weren't. The Pirates led 3-0 with two outs in bottom of the sixth inning before the Comets rallied for four runs to defeat Ventura and take the series. Isabel Gallegos paced VC (27-14) with a pair of hits and a run batted in. Kat Tafoya and Ciana Garcia also recorded an RBI each in the heartbreaking loss. -
Ventura Drops Game 1 of Softball Playoff Series
May 06, 2022The Pirate softball team dropped Game 1 of their first round Southern California Regional Playoff series at Palomar College Friday, 4-1. Second-year shortstop Abby Strong was 2-1 on the day with a double and a run scored to lead Ventura (27-13) while Ahlyssa Guzman also recorded a pair of hits, including one double. LeAnna De La Cruz had the only run batted in of the game for VC. -
Pirate Softball Seeded No. 11 in SoCal Playoffs
May 03, 2022The VC softball team will be playing in the post-season. The Pirates (27-12) have been seeded No. 11 in the Southern California Regional Playoffs and will travel to No. 6 Palomar (31-7) in San Marcos Friday and Saturday May 6 and 7 for a best-of-three-series. Game 1 is set for a 2:00 pm first pitch on Friday. -
VC Routs Santa Monica in Regular Season Finale
April 26, 2022The Pirate softball team scored 12 runs in the top of the third inning in posting a 17-0 five-inning rout of Santa Monica in VC's regular season finale. Ahlyssa Guzman, Leanna De La Cruz, Ciana Garcia and Abby Strong batted in three runs each in the balanced offensive attack for Ventura (27-12, 10-2). STarting pitcher Kat Tafoya allowed a single hit while striking out six Corsairs and Morgan Albertsen finished the game in the pitcher's circle. -
Flinchum No-Hits Vaqueros as Pirates Win in Five
April 21, 2022VC pitcher Ashlyn Flinchum did not allow a hit over five innings of work Thursday at Santa Barbara, striking out 10 batters as the Pirates defeated the Vaqueros 13-0. Ahlyssa Guzman, Lauren Albrent and Isabel Gallegos all hit home runs for the Pirates (26-12, 9-2) as they pounded out 11 hits to go with their 13 runs in the game. -
Pirate Bats Silenced at Moorpark
April 19, 2022The Ventura College softball team could not get anything going offensively Tuesday, falling at Moorpark 4-0. Ahlyssa Guzman and Isabel Gallegos were the only Pirates who managed a hit in the game. Jocelyn Ortega drew a walk and Courtney Terrazas was hit by a pitch as VC struggled to produce baserunners all afternoon against the Raiders. -
Ventura Walks Off Oxnard in Six Innings
April 12, 2022In their final regular season home game of the year, the Pirate softball team defeated Oxnard 10-2 Tuesday, walking off with the run-rule victory in the bottom of the sixth inning. Leanna De La Cruz had a pair of hts, including a triple, with two runs scored and a run batted in while Ahlyssa Guzman scored three runs with a pair of hits. Isabel Gallegos had two hits and two RBI for VC (25-11, 8-1). -
Softball Blanks Hancock in Run-Rule Victory
April 07, 2022VC's Ashlyn Flinchum pitched a one-hitter, and Isabella Ayala had three hits, including a home run, with two runs batted in and a run scored as the Pirates blanked Allan Hancock 9-0 Thursday in six innings in Santa Maria. Ciana Garcia had a pair of doubles and three RBI and Ahlyssa Guzman singled and doubled and scored three times as Ventura (24-11, 7-1) kept pace in the Western State Conference standings. -
Ventua Uses 11-Run Inning to Rout Cuesta
April 05, 2022The Ventura College softball team sent 16 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning Tuesday en route to their 13-2 run-rule victory over the Cougars. Lauren Albrent smacked her ninth home run of the season and knocked in four runs in the fourth inning alone to pace Ventura (23-11, 6-1). Kat Tafoya gave up three hits in five complete innings of work in the circle with four K's to pick up the win. -
Pirate Softball Drops Tough Decision to Pasadena
April 02, 2022The VC softball team dropped a tough 6-5 decision to Pasadena City College Saturday at the VC Softball Complex. After trailing 4-0 and 5-2, Ventura came back to tie the game at 5-5 before the Lancers scored a run in the top of the sixth to set the final margin. Lauren Albrent had a solo home run and Abby Strong, Courtney Terrazas and Ashley Perez all recorded RBI singles in the effort for Ventura (22-11, 5-1). -
VC Splits Twin Bill at Cerritos
April 01, 2022The Ventura College softball team, ranked No. 10 in Southern California, sp[lit a pair of games at SoCal No. 6 Cerritos on Friday. The Pirates dropped game one in a pitchers' duel 1-0 before taking the nightcap against the Falcons 9-4. Jocelyn Ortega picked up four hits on the day for Ventura (22-10, 5-1) while Abby Strong had two hits, including a double, with two runs batted in and a run scored. Ashlyn Flinchum took the hard-luck loss in the opener before picking up the save in the nightcap in the pitcher's circle. -
Ventura Blanks Santa Monica, Completes First Round of WSC
March 31, 2022The VC softball team easily defeated Santa Monica 11-0 Thursday at the VC Softball Complex to complete the first round of Western State Conference play. Isabella Ayala and Isabel Gallegos each went yard as the Pirates (21-9, 5-1) scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to set-up the run-rule victory. Ashlyn Flinchum, Morgan Albertsen and Kat Tafoya shared duties in the pitcher's circle no-hitting the Corsairs in the triumph. -
Softball Wins Fourth Straight as WSC Play Resumes
March 29, 2022The Pirate softball team resumed Western State Conference play on Tuesday winning their fourth straight game with a 7-3 victory over Santa Barbara. Ciana Garcia had a hit, scored a run and batted in a run and Abby Strong had two RBI with a single and a walk. Lauren Albrent was 1-1 while knocking in a pair of runs and stealing a base. Morgan Albertsen pitched a complete game, scattering six hits and giving up three runs late to pick up the victory for VC (20-9, 4-1). -
Pirates Take Two on Final Day of Spring Games
March 26, 2022The VC softball team put together a pair of wins Saturday to complete the Ventura Spring Games, defeating state No. 12-ranked Bakersfield 7-0 in the morning before pounding Santa Barbara 16-1 in a five-inning affair in the afternoon. Isabel Gallegos had a strong day with a pair of home runs and six runs batted in and Ahlyssa Guzman had five hits on the day. Ashlyn Flinchum pitched the complete game win against the Renegades while Kat Tafoya shut down the Vaqueros from the pitcher's circle for Ventura (19-9, 3-1). -
VC Splits Pair on Day 1 of Spring Games
March 25, 2022The Pirate softball team split a pair of games Friday on the first day of the Ventura Spring Games at the VC Softball Complex. Ventura fell to Fullerton 3-2 in the morning before coming back to defeat Glendale 7-4 in the afternoon contest. Catcher Aaliyah Arias had a pair of hits against the Vaqueros, including a double, while driving in two runs to help lead to the Pirate win. -
Ventura Drops First WSC Game Against Moorpark
March 24, 2022The Ventura softball team dropped its first Western State Conference contest Tuesday afternoon 2-0 against visiting Moorpark. Abby Strong had the only hit in the game for the Pirates (16-8, 3-1). -
Pirate Softball Falls at No. 1 Mt. San Antonio
March 22, 2022The Pirate softball team rose to the No. 19 ranking in Monday's state poll, but htat was of no help Tuesday when they traveled to take on top-ranked Mt. San Antonio. Ventura was unable to get anything going against the Mounties, falling in five innings, 8-0. -
Softball Splits Pair of Non-Conference Games
March 19, 2022The Ventura College softball team split a a pair of games Saturday at East Los Anglee3s College in Monterey Park. The Pirates dropped a close decision to the host Huskies 8-7 before defeating Fullerton 8-6 in the nightcap. Isabel Gallegos had a good day with four hits, including two home runs and a double, four runs batted in, four runs scored and a stolen base. Ahlyssa Guzman had three hits with an RBI and a run scored and Lauren Albrent recorded a pair of hits, including a double, with three runs scored and four RBI. -
VC Splits Double-Header at Long Beach
March 18, 2022The Pirate softball team split a double header at Long Beach City College Friday. Ventura dropped the first game 4-3 in walk-off fashion for the Vikings before coming back to defeat LBCC 4-1 in the nightcap. Isabel Gallegos and Aaliyah Arias each recorded four hits on the day while Courtney Terrazas had a pair of hits and two runs batted in. Kat Tafoya had a pair of hits in the opener and pitched the victory for Ventura (15-5, 3-0). -
Pirates Win Tight Decision at Oxnard
March 17, 2022The VC softball team scored three runs in the top of the second inning and held on the rest of the way in their 3-1 victory over the Condors Thursday afternoon. Kayla Garza was 2-3 with a run batted in and Courtney Terrazas had a pair of RBI to lead Ventura (14-4, 3-0). Kat Tafoya was solid in the circle scattering five hits and striking out seven batters in the victory. -
Ventura Earns Key WSC Victory over Hancock
March 15, 2022The VC softball team earned a key Western State Conference victory Tuesday, 9-1 over visiting Allan Hancock College at the VC Softball Complex. Ashlyn Flinchum was dominant in the pitcher's circle scattering four hits over six innings, allowing one run while striking out 12 Bulldogs for the victory. Ashley Perez had three hits and scored twice while Lauren Albrent had a home run with two runs batted in to lead the Ventura offense. Isabel Gallegos also knocked in two runs for the Pirates (13-4, 2-0). -
Softball Opens Conference Play With Win at Cuesta
March 10, 2022The Pirate softball team opened Western State Conference play Thursday with a 7-3 victory at Cuesta College. Lauren Albrent was 4-4 with a double, two runs scored and three runs batted in while Courtney Terrazas had a home run and two RBI in the victory. Morgan Albertsen scattered five hits and gave up three runs, zero earned, in the complete-game win in the circle for Ventura (12-4, 1-0). -
Quick Start Pushed Pirates Past Eagles
March 08, 2022The Pirate softball team scored three runs in each of the first two innings Tuesday en route to a 7-3 victory over Los Angeles Mission College at the VC Softball Complex. Ahlyssa Guzman was 3-3, including a triple, with three runs scored, a stolen base and a run batted in to lead Ventura (11-4) while Lauren Albrent had three hits with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Kat Tafoya made the start in the circle, picking up the win with six innings pitched and Ashlyn Flinchum pitched the seventh to pick up the save. -
Pirates Top Pirates in Shutout Victory
March 05, 2022The wind was blowing in on Saturday, helping turn the Pirates versus Pirates affair into a pitchers' duel at the VC softball Complex. The VC Pirates got the best of the Orange Coast Pirates, posting a 3-0 victory behind a 10-strikeout, five-hit performance from starting pitcher Ashlyn Flinchum. Courtney Terrasas had a two-RBI triple in the second inning to give the Pirates of the North the edge, and Ashley Perez singled and scored on an error in the fifth for he final margin. -
Ventura Returns Home to Defeat Glendale, 11-3
March 04, 2022The Ventura College softball team returned home Friday and posted an 11-3 victory against Glendale. The Pirates scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to walk off in the run-rule decision after six innings. Isabella Ayala was 3-3 with a triple and a run scored in the contest while Aaliyah Arias was 2-3 with a run scored an a pair of runs batted in. Morgan Albertsen settled down after the first inning to pitch five complete to pick up the win in the circle for Ventrua (9-4). -
Pirate Softball Splits Pair in Bakersfield
February 26, 2022The VC softball team split a pair of games Saturday in Bakersfield. The Pirates easily defeated College of the Siskiyous 17-1 in the first game before falling to the host Renegades 5-0 in the nightcap. Lauren Albrent was on fire in the opener with three home runs and eight runs batted in while Jalen Barron was 4-4 with a homer and four RBI. Leanna De La Cruz also recorded four hits in the two games for Ventura (8-4). -
Pirate Softball Holds on to 1-0 Lead in Suspended Game
February 22, 2022On February 4, the Pirate softball team led Santa Ana 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning when darkness suspended their game. The teams picked up where they left off on Tuesday with VC holding on to the slim margin in posting the 1-0 victory. Ashlyn Flinchum pitched a complete game one-hit shutout, striking out seven batters in the process. Leanna De La Cruz tripled in the fourth inning and Ciara Garcia doubled her home for the game's only run. -
Pirate Softball Takes 2 of 3 in Palm Desert
February 19, 2022The VC softball team won two of three games over the weekend at the President's Desert Classic. Ventura defeated the hosts, College of the Desert, 15-4 in five inings on Friday before winning over Saddleback 4-2 and dropping the final contest of the weekend against Imperial Valley, 2-0. Lauren Albrent hit five doubles on the weekend, knocking in five runs and scoring four while Isabel Gallegos had three hits, including a triple and double, with four runs scored. Isabella Ayala had six RBI for the weekend.
