Pirate Softball Prominant on All-WSC List
June 01, 2018The Ventura College Softball team was well represented on the Western State Conference North Division all-conference list voted upon by the league coaches earlier this month. Pitcher Anissa Padilla and and outfielder Arianna Rivas, both sophomores highlighted Pirates on the first team along with freshman second baseman Kaylee Neal and first-year outfielder/catcher Adriana Clemons. -
Softball Forces Game 3 Before Bowing Out of Playoffs
May 05, 2018The Pirate softball team defeated Antelope Valley in game two of the CCCAA SoCal Regional Playoffs, 5-4 Saturday afternoon at the VC Softball Complex, forcing a winner-take-all game three match-up with the Marauders. Unfortunately, VC could not keep the momentum going, falling to the visitors 10-0 in the series finale. AVC moves on to the SoCal Super Regionals while the Pirates (29-11) have their season come to a close. -
Pirate Softball Drops Game 1 of Playoff Series
May 04, 2018A pair of walks, an error, and a bloop single were all it took for the Pirates to drop the first game of their first round playoff series against Antelope Valley. VC dropped a 2-1 decision to the Marauders Friday at the VC Softball Complex in game 1 of the best-of-three first round series. Games 2, and game 3 (if necessary) will be Saturday May 5 beginning an noon in Ventura. -
Pirate Softball Earns No. 7 Seed in SoCal Playoffs
April 28, 2018The Ventura College softball team has matched its highest playoff seed in program history, earning the No. 7 seed in the upcoming CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Pirates (28-9) will host No. 9 Antelope Valley (28-11) in a best two-of-three series beginning on Friday May 4 and concluding with a double-header, if necessary, on Saturday May 5. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 2:00 pm at the VC Softball Complex. -
VC Shuts Out Santa Barbara in Regular Season Finale
April 24, 2018The Pirate softball team completed its regular season i fine fashion Tuesday afternoon, shutting out host Santa Barbara 8-0 in a five-inning contest. Anissa Padilla recorded her second straight 5-inning shutout, allowing just three hits to the Vaqueros while striking out three. Sophie Dahlstedt and Kaylee Neal both had two hits and each scored a run in the victory for Ventura (28-9, 12-2). The Pirates finishe the season in second place in the Western State Conference North Division and await their playoff seeding. -
Padilla, Pirates Shut Out Moorpark
April 19, 2018Anissa Padilla was unstoppable Thursday afternoon at Moorpark. The VC sophomore was 4-4 at the plate with three RBI offensively while pitching a five-inning shutout, allowing just three hits with five strikeouts in Ventura's 9-0 victory over the Raiders. Celeste Ekman was 2-3 with a double and three runs batted in for VC (27-9, 11-2) in the victory. The Pirates totaled 15 hits as a team in the game. -
Ventura Defeats Oxnard in Five in Home Finale
April 17, 2018The Ventura College softball team scored runs in each of the five innings to walk off with a 9-1 victory over Oxnard Tuesday in the Pirates' regular-season home finale. Sophie Dahlstedt had two hits, including a double, with two runs scored and two runs batted in addition to reaching base on an error in the bottom of the fifth resulting in the game-ending run crossing the plate. Megan Best pitched a complete game for the victory, allowing just three hits while striking out seven for VC (26-9, 10-2). -
Kayla Garcia' Home Run is Difference for VC Over Cerritos
April 16, 2018Kayla Garcia smacked a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to power the Pirate softball team to a 7-5 victory over visiting Cerritos on Monday afternoon. In the make-up from a March 3 rain out, Garcia provided the big hit in a four-run sixth inning for the Pirates (25-9, 9-2)as they turned a 4-3 deficit into a 7-4 advantage. Garcia was 3-4 on the day, including the big home run, with four runs batted in while Adrianna Clemons was also 3-4 with an RBI. Aniss Padilla had eight strike outs over seven innings to pick up the win in the circle. -
Two Big Innings Propel Pirates Past Santiago Canyon
April 14, 2018The Pirate softball team used a pair of five-run innings to run past Santiago Canyon College 10-6 Saturday afternoon in non-conference play at the VC Softball Complex. Adriana Clemons was 3-4 in the game, including a triple, with three runs batted in while Anissa Padilla and Sophia Dlstedt also recorded three hits. Padilla made the start in the circle, yielding eight hits in the game for VC (24-9, 9-2). -
Back-to-Back Home Runs Lead Softball to Victory at Cuesta
April 12, 2018Celeste Ekman and Brittney Banales hit back-to-back home runs to power the Ventura College softball team to a 9-5 victory over Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo on Thursday. Anissa Padilla pitched a complete game, giving up five runs, three earned, while striking out 10 Cougar batters. Kayla Garcia and Ekman each had three hits to lead the Pirates (23-9, 9-2). -
Pirates Keep Pace With 10-2 Victory
April 10, 2018Sophie Dahlstedt was 4-4, oincluding a double and a triple, wit five RBI as the Pirate softball team breezed past visiting Santa Barbara 10-2 on Tuesday afternoon at the VC Softball Complex. Celeste Ekman was 3-3, also with a double and a triple, with three runs scored and three runs batted in as Ventura (22-9, 8-2) kept pace in the Western State Conference North Division race. VC remains in a second place tie with Allan Hancock College, just a game behind front-running Bakersfield in the loss column. -
VC Softball Drops Pair of Non-Conference Games at East LA
April 08, 2018The Ventura College softball team dropped a pair of games Sunday at East Los Angeles College, falling to the host Huskies 6-5 in the opener before dropping a 7-1 decision to Fullerton College in the nightcap. Arianna Rivas totaled four hits on the day while Angelina Flores had a pair of hits, including a double, with an RBI in game one. -
Ventura Mercies Visiting Compton in Six Innings
April 06, 2018The VC softball team scored nine runs in the final two innings to bring home a 12-4 walk-off mercy rule victory over visiting Compton Friday at the VC Softball Complex. Angelina Flores led the Pirates (21-7, 7-2) at the plate with three doubles and three runs batted in. Arianna Rivas, Adrianna Clemons and Kayla Garcia also recorded three hits each in the game. Megan Best scattered six hits and struck out seven in the pitcher's circle in recording the win. -
Softball Back on Track With Road Victory
April 05, 2018The VC softball team got back on track Thursday with a 3-1 victory over Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria. Arianna Rivas was 4-4 at the plate, including a pair of doubles, and scored a run while Anissa Padilla had two runs batted in offensively and scored once while pitching a two-hitter with eight strikeouts in the field. The win pulls VC (20-7, 7-2) into a tie for second place in the Western State Conference North Division with the Bulldogs after sweeping the season series from AHC. -
Pirate Defense Yields Four Unearned Runs in 5-0 Loss
April 03, 2018The Pirate softball team hosted Bakersfield on Tuesday afternoon in a first-place showdown. Unfortunately for VC, their defense committed four errors and gave up one big inning, yielding four unearned runs, in their 5-0 loss to the Renegades. Ventura's offense also had trouble getting traction, managing four hits over seven innings. Kaylee Neal went 2-3 in the game to lead the Pirates (19-7, 6-2) at the plate. -
Pirates Work Extra Innings In Win Over Santa Ana
March 30, 2018The Pirate softball team worked extra innings before defeating visiting Santa Ana 4-3 Friday at the VC Softball Complex. Celeste Ekman had a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth scoring Angelina Flores to walk off with the win. Adriana Clemons was 2-4, including a three-RBI triple, to lead VC (19-6, 6-1) at the plate while Anissa Padilla scattered eight hits and struck out six in the complete-game victory in the pitcher's circle. -
Softball Shuts Out Santa Monica, 10-0
March 29, 2018Megan Best pitched a five-inning, two-hit shutout Thursday, leading the Pirate softball team to a 10-0 victory over visiting Santa Monica College at the VC Softball Complex. Anissa Padilla had three hits, including a pair of triples, scored three times and had five runs batted in to lead VC (18-6, 6-1) at the plate. Arianna Rivas and Danielle Carmona each recorded two hits in the victory. -
VC Has Six-Game Win Streak Snapped at El Camino
March 28, 2018The Ventura College softball team had its six-game winning streak snapped Wednesday with an 8-0 defeat at El Camino College in Torrance. Angelina Flores had the only hit for the Pirates (17-6, 5-1), who had just four base runners over the five inning contest. Anissa Padilla made the start in the pitcher's circle, giving up six runs, five earned, over three innings. Megan Best pitched the final inning for Ventura. -
Softball Continues Winning Ways Against Moorpark
March 20, 2018The VC softball team won its fourth straight game, and its fifth in six Western State Conference contests, defeating visiting Moorpark 8-1 Tuesday afternoon. Megan Best pitched a complete game for the Pirates, allowing one run on three hits with four strike outs. Adriana Clemons was 3-4 at the plate with a double and four runs batted in to lead the attack for Ventura (15-5, 5-1). -
Softball Posts Third Win, Second Shutout in a Row
March 19, 2018The Pirate softball team defeated visiting Cuesta College 8-0 on Monday afternoon for the team's third win and second shutout in a row. Pitcher Anissa Padilla allowed just three hits and struck out six in earning the complete game victory in the circle. Kaylee Neal had a pair of hits, including a double, and one run batted for the Pirates offensively. -
Padilla's Five-Inning No-Hitter Paces Pirates to Victory
March 15, 2018Anissa Padilla had a very good day. The sophomore pitcher for the Pirate softball team did not allow a hit over five innings, striking out five as Ventura defeated Oxnard 9-0 on the road Thursday afternoon. Adriana Clemons was 4-4 at the plate with four runs batted in and Samantha Gonzalez was 2-4 with an RBI for VC (13-5, 3-1). -
Late Rally Pushed Pirates Past Bulldogs
March 06, 2018The Pirate softball team had a three-run rally in the bottom f the sixth inning Tuesday afternoon to defeat the visiting Allan Hancock Bulldogs 4-1 at the VC Softball Complex. Anissa Padilla was dominant in all aspects of the game, going 2-3 at the plate, including a home run, with two runs batted in. In the pitcher's circle, she recorded 10 strikeouts while scattering five hits over seven complete innings of work for the victory. Arianna Rivas was 1-3 with a triple and two RBI for Ventura (12-5, 2-1). -
Pirate Rally Comes Up Short at Bakersfield
March 01, 2018The Pirate softball team rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh inning, but they fell one run short, dropping a 6-5 decision in Bakersfield Thursday evening. Kayla Garcia was 2-3 with a run scored and a run batted in while Adriana Clemons had two hits and also scored a run.Brittney Banales knocked out two doubles. -
Softball Pounds Santa Monica 14-0 in Five Innings
February 27, 2018The Pirate softball team wasted little time in Santa Monica, putting up six runs in the top of the first inning en route to a 14-0 five-inning runaway victory over the Corsairs in the Western State Conference opener for both teams. Angelina Flores was 3-3 in the game with three runs scored and two RBI while Kaylee Neal also had three hits, including a double, and a pair of runs batted in. -
VC Needs More Offense Against Mt. SAC
February 24, 2018The Pirate softball team hosted Mt. San Antonio College Saturday on a nearly perfect day for softball at the VC Softball Complex. Anissa Padilla had a solid outing in the circle, striking out five while scattering six hits and yielding three runs, but the Ventura offense could only muster a single score in the 3-1 defeat to the Mounties. Ariana Clemons was 2-4 with a triple and Arianna Rivas had an RBI single in the loss for VC (10-4). -
Softball Wraps Up Undefeated Weekend at Tournament
February 17, 2018The Pirate softball team wrapped up a 4-0 weekend at the Mt. San Jacinto College President's Day Tournament with victories over Los Angeles Valley and Imperial Valley on Saturday in Menifee. VC (10-3) had a 7-run first innig in defeating the Monarchs 12-9 in the morning game before blanking the IVC Arabs 4-0 in the tournament finale. Arianna Rivas had a big game early with a home run, triple and five runs batted in while Kaylee Neal was key at the plate in the nightcap. -
Pirates Pound Out 34 Runs in Two Games Friday
February 16, 2018The VC softball team exploded for 34 runs in two games Friday at the Mt. San Jacinto College President's Day Tournament. VC (8-3) defeated San Diego City 17-6 in the morning game before routing East Los Angeles 17-3 in the afternoon tilt. Angelina Flores knocked out six hits on the day with six runs scored and three RBI while Kayla Garcia, Samantha Gonzalez and Adriana Clemons all had four hits each in the two games. Anissa Padilla had a save and a complete game victory in the pitcher's circle for the Pirates (8-3). -
Long Ball Does In VC at Antelope Valley
February 15, 2018The VC softball team traveled to the High Desert Thursday, dropping a difficult 3-2 decision to Antelope Valley College in Palmdale. Kaylee Neal was 2-4 with a pair of runs batted in. Arianna Rivas doubled and Kayla Garcia reached base twice, with a single and a walk. Anissa Padilla had a solid day in the circle, scattering six hits and striking out two, but she gave up two home runs which accounted for all three Marauder runs. -
Pirates Continue Strong Start With Win at LA Mission
February 13, 2018Angelina Flores, Brittney Banales and Kaylee Neal all had two hits as the Pirate softball team produced a 7-4 victory at LA Mission College Tuesday afternoon. Flores had two runs batted in with a run scored, Banales scored twice and Neal came across the plate once as Ventura (6-2) continued its strong start to the 2018 season. Megan best notched her fourth win of the season in the pitcher's circle, throwing 4.2 innings and striking out five batters. -
Ventura Holds On For 6-4 Victory at Canyons
February 08, 2018The Pirate softball team scored three runs in the first inning, and had a 5-0 lead at Conyons Thursday, making it hold up in their 6-4 victory over the Cougars. Angelina Flores was 3-4 at the plate, including a double, with two runs batted in and a run scored. Sophie Dahlstedt, Kayla Garcia and Ariana Rivas all had two hits each in the game. Anissa Padilla pitched four innings to pick up the win and Megan Best threw three frames for the save.
