Pirates Unable to Extend Season as They Fall in Playoffs
May 08, 2016After closing the year on a magical run the Ventura College softball team hoped to have just a little bit of magic left to stave off elimination in the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Their match up with No. 2 ranked Santiago Canyon proved to be just to much for the Pirates to continue their season as they fell in two games in the best of three series. Ventura dropped the second game of the series 15-0 in five innings to conclude their season. Julia Garcia picked up another hit as did Julianne Abeloe. -
VC Softball Falls in Opener of So Cal Regional Playoffs
May 07, 2016After winning their wild card qualifier game in dramatic fashion to extend their winning streak to 10 games, the Ventura College softball team was unable to maintain their momentum facing No. 2 ranked Santiago Canyon fell 7-0. While the Pirates offense was unable to gain any traction throughout the game Julia Garcia did pick up a single for Ventura. Garcia was 1-1 on the day reaching base via walk in her other plate appearances. -
Pirates Walk Off With Playoff Victory
May 03, 2016Pirate sophomore Lindsey Deitz had three hits, including a lead-off triple in the bottom of the seventh, and scored the game-tying run as the Ventura College softball team extended their season with a thrilling 4-3 walk-off win over Rio Hondo in the preliminary round of the SoCal Regional Playoffs Tuesday. -
Pirate Softball Advances to SoCal Playoffs
May 01, 2016Riding the momentum of winning their final nine games of the season, and 11 of their final 13 Western State Conference games, the Ventura College softball team has qualified for the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Ventura (26-13) received he No. 15 seed and will host No. 18 Rio Hondo (16-24) in a one-game play-in round Tuesday May 3 at the VC Softball Complex at 2:00 pm. -
VC Softball Sweeps Their Way into Second Place
April 26, 2016The Ventura College softball team entered the final five games of the season needing to win five straight to earn their way into the State playoffs. Thanks to a late season hot streak VC accomplished their goal by sweeping Cuesta on the final day of the regular season with a 2-0 win and 12-7 victory. The wins pushed VC into second place and the automatic berth. Julia Garcia collected five hits with Julianne Abeloe and Justine De La Rosa adding three hits to the Pirate attack. -
Pirates Softball Shuts Out Pierce
April 21, 2016As the Ventura College softball team battles for a chance to make the State regional playoffs they claimed a key 14-0 win over Los Angeles Pierce. Olivia Hernandez started and went four innings while allowing one hit. Julianne Abeloe went 4-4 with a double and a triple with two RBI. Justine De La Rosa went 2-4 with a home run and three RBI while pitching one scoreless inning of relief. -
Softball Sweeps Santa Barbara to Remain in Playoff Hunt
April 19, 2016The Ventura College softball team needs to finish the season with a strong run and picked up a pair of wins over Santa Barbara City to stay in the playoff hunt. In the opener the Pirates used a dominant pitching performance for a 4-0 win. Then in the second part of the twin bill the VC bats carried them to a win. Julia Garcia rapped out five hits on the day while Julianne Abeloe and Lindsey Dietz each had four hits. -
Softball Downs Moorpark in Important WSC Game
April 14, 2016The Ventura College softball team traveled to Moopark to take on the Raiders and claimed an important 9-1 win. VC is still alive in the playoff race, but needs to win out to give themselves the best opportunity for a berth got started on the right foot. Behind 15 hits the Pirates offense put up nine runs with Lindsey Dietz, Julia Garcia, Justine De La Rosa and Karinna Carrillo each picking up multiple hits. -
Pirates Softball Sweeps Oxnard
April 12, 2016The Ventura College softball team traveled to Oxnard to take on their rival Oxnard College in a Western State Conference doubleheader and brought home a pair of wins. In the opener VC picked up a 6-5 win and followed it up with a 8-1 in the nightcap. Lindsey Dietz and Julia Garcia each collected four hits on the day. Olivia Hernandez and Justine De La Rosa picked up wins in the circle. -
Softball Sophomore Lindsey Dietz Signs Scholarship
April 08, 2016Ventura College softball sophomore Lindsey Dietz signed a scholarship to continue her academic and athletic careers at Doane College in Crete, Neb. next year. Dietz, and All-Western State Conference catcher, has played in all 28 games for VC this season and is second on the team with a .341 batting average. She also leads the team in runs scored (27), doubles (5), home runs (2), and walks (17). -
Softball Brings Home Split with Hancock
April 05, 2016The Ventura College softball team traveled north to Santa Maria to take on Allan Hancock in a Western State Conference doubleheader. The Pirates picked up a split on the day dropping the opener 6-2 before rallying to win the second game 11-5. Lindsey Dietz had two hits on the day with a triple. Julia Garcia added three hits and a triple. Farris Burke and Mariah Gamboa each had two hits. -
On Final Day of Spring Games Pirates Split
April 03, 2016The Ventura College softball team split their final two games of the VC spring games. In the opener of the day Ventura used a potent offense for a 10-4 win over Porterville. Then in the final game of the weekend the Pirates dropped a 5-4 decision to College of the Canyons. Julianne Abeloe had six hits and three doubles on the day while Lindsey Dietz homered twice for Ventura. -
Pirates Sweep Day One of VC Spring Games
April 02, 2016The Ventura College softball team hosted their annual spring games with 20 teams competing. The Pirates swept their first day of games with an 8-3 win over Glendale in five innings. Then following it up with a 4-2 win over Mt. San Jacinto in five innings. Julia Garcia provided the offensive fireworks with three hits, one double and a home run. Olivia Hernandez and Claira Lozano picked up wins in the circle. -
Pirate Softball Unable to Rally at Cuesta
March 31, 2016The Ventura College softball team traveled to San Luis Obispo to take on Cuesta and fell behind early in falling 6-0. Lindsey Dietz and Justine De La Rosa were the top producers for the Pirates offensively with a pair of hits each. Dietz knocked a double. -
Softball Unable to Overcome Santa Barbara
March 24, 2016The Ventura College softball team traveled north to Pershing Park to take on Santa Barbara City and dropped a 9-1 game. Ventura was only able to collect four hits in the game and was paced by Julianne Abeloe who knocked out two Pirate hits. Olivia Hernandez went the distance in the loss. -
Pirates Softball Falls Twice to Moorpark
March 22, 2016The Ventura College softball team played host to cross county rival and fell in a pair of nail-biters. In the opener Ventura lost in extra innings 4-3 to MC, then in the second game of the doubleheader the Pirates dropped a close 2-1 decision to the Raiders. Lindsey Dietz topped the Pirates with three hits on the day including a double. Julianne Abeloe and Julia Garcia each knocked out two hits. -
Softball Holds on For One Run Win Over Long Beach
March 19, 2016The Ventura College softball team took to the road for the first time in nearly a month and came home with a 5-4 win over Long Beach City. Olivia Hernandez went the distance in the circle for the win. Lindsey Dietz collected two of the five hits on the day for the Pirates. Dietz had a double and picked up a stolen base. -
Softball Uses Offensive Onslaught for Win Over Oxnard
March 17, 2016Returning to Western State Conference play the Ventura College softball team slugged their way to a WSC win over rival Oxnard 9-0. Ventura needed just five innings to plate their nine runs on 14 hits for the win. Olivia Hernandez threw a two hitter for Ventura. Julia Garcia and Farris Burke each had three hits while Justine De La Rosa picked up two hits. -
Hernandez Dominates in Circle as Pirates Down El Camino
March 14, 2016Ventura College softball picked up their second straight one run win by taking down El Camino 2-1. Olivia Hernandez went the distance for the Pirates pitching a three hitter and walking just two hitters in earning the win. Farris Burke and Julianne Abeloe each collected two hits as VC had seven as a team. -
Softball Downs Hancock by One Run in WSC Opener
March 10, 2016Following an extended layoff the Ventura College softball team opened Western State Conference play against the defending champion Allan Hancock College. VC pulled out a 7-6 win in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh inning. Julia Garcia was 2-3 with a triple and two rbi, while Lindsey Dietz added a triple and one rbi. Ventura capitalized on four Hancock errors. -
Softball Falls Twice in Doubleheader
February 27, 2016The Ventura College softball team played host to a doubleheader and unfortunately was unable to pick up a win. Playing San Diego Mesa in the opener of the day the Pirates fell 4-2. Then they faced off with Santiago Canyon in the nightcap and fell 7-0. Justine De La Rosa and Julianne Abeloe each had multiple hits on the day for VC. -
Ventura Softball Outlasts LA Valley For Win
February 23, 2016The Ventura College softball team traveled to Van Nuys and were able to outlast the Monarchs for a 7-6 win in extra innings. Brittney Banales went 2-4 with two RBI and blasted a home run. Marina Coffin was 2-2 and Mariah Gamboa went 2-3 with two doubles and one RBI. -
Pirates Softball Falls on the Road at LA Mission
February 18, 2016The Ventura College softball team traveled to Los Angeles Mission for a non-conference contest and lost a 6-3 decision. Ventura was stymied at the plate managing just four hits for the game. Brittney Banales hit a home run for VC, Claira Lozano added a double. -
Pirates Softball Slugs Their Way to a Pair of Wins
February 13, 2016In the final day of the Mt. San Jacinto tournament the Pirates softball team slugged their way to 17 runs and 16 runs in earning to victories. Ventura defeated Barstow 17-12 and then knocked off Napa 16-1 in four innings in their second game. Julia Garcia collected three hits and drove in seven runs in the two games. Olivia Hernandez earned both wins for the Pirates coming on in relief in game one for the win and starting game 2 for the win. -
VC Pirate Softball Sweeps Pair of Games at Mt. San Jacinto
February 12, 2016The Ventura College softball team played a pair of games in the Mt. San Jacinto tournament and brought home a pair of dominant wins. In the first game the Pirates picked up a 16-2 win over Victory Valley in five innings. Then they picked up a 8-0 win over San Diego City in the second game. Julianne Abeloe collected six hits and four RBI's. Lindsey Deitz added two hits, while Justine De La Rosa had two hits a double and one RBI while picking up a win in the circle. -
Softball Shuts Out Victor Valley in Home Opener
February 09, 2016Ventura College softball hosted their home opener and picked up a 4-0 win over Victory Valley. The Pirates held VVC to one hit in the game while picking up eight hits of their own. Justine De La Rosa had three hits while five other Pirates knocked out single hits in the game. -
Softball Comes Up Just Short in One Run Loss to Cerritos
February 06, 2016Traveling to Cerritos the Ventura College softball team dropped a close one run decision to the Falcons of Cerritos 5-4. Ventura picked up eight hits and slugged a pair of home runs wit h Julianne Abeloe and Farris Burke each going deep for the Pirates. Abeloe was 3-4 in the game and Justine De La Rosa added a triple. -
Pirates Softball Unable to Pick Up Win at Bakersfield
February 02, 2016Traveling to Bakersfield the Ventura College softball team dropped a 9-2 decision to the Renegades of Bakersfield College. Ventura got a total of six hits in the game and five of those hits were from Justine De La Rosa with three and Lindsey Deitz with two. -
Pirates Split Their Final Two Games of Glendale Tournament
January 30, 2016Ventura College women's softball team finished up the Glendale Tournament by splitting a pair of games. In their first game the Pirates topped Long Beach City 7-5 in five innings. Then in the final game of the tournament VC fell 5-4 to Santa Ana College. Lindsey Deitz was 3-3 on the day with three rbi's and two stolen bases. Julia Garcia homered for the Pirates. Olivia Hernandez picked up her first win of the season over Long Beach. -
Softball Splits a Pair on Opening Day
January 29, 2016Ventura College women's softball team traveled to Glendale College for opening day to their season. The Pirates were able to split a pair of games on the day, falling to Santiago Canyon 6-2 in their opener, but rebounding to down Barstow College 19-2 in the later game. Claira Lozano had two hits in the opener, while Julia Garcia collected three in the win over Barstow. Five other Pirates collected multiple hits on the day. Farris Burke picked up the win over Barstow.
