Delanie Gavid & Mitchell Ongstad, 2014-15 Female & Male Athletes of the Year, May 17 2015June 10, 2015Delanie Gavid (Women's Soccer) and Mitchell Ongstad (Men's Swimming) were named the 2014-15 VC Athletes of the Year at the Hall of Fame and Student Athlete Recognition Banquet last month.

Sophia Chandler Madison O'Donnell Chris Sands, 2014-15 Scholar Athletes, May 17 2015May 18, 2015Sophia Chandler (Women's Soccer), Madison O'Donnell (Women's Basketball) and Chris Sands (Men's Swimming were named the 2014-15 VC Scholar Athletes at the Hall of Fame and Student Athlete Recognition Banquet Sunday.

Mitchell Ongstad, Men's Swimming, Week of April 27-May 2May 03, 2015Pirate swimmer Mitchell Ongstad finished out his career in the orange and black in style. The sophomore from Royal High School in Simi Valley was named the state's Co-Athlete of the Year following two individual golds and a silver in the CCCAA State Championships this past week at East Los Angeles College.

Dylan Roberts, Men's Track & Field, Week of April 20-26April 27, 2015A week after winning the Western State Conference long jump, sophomore Dylan Roberts brought home the silver in the triple jump this week at the WSC Championships in Santa Barbara.

Raquel Rodriguez, Women's Swimming, Week of April 13-19April 19, 2015Raquel Rodriguez had a very productive weekend for the women's swim team at the Western State Conference Championships over the weekend. The freshman from Ventura High School had two runner-up finishes in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events, respectively.

Jia Wiebe, Women's Tennis, Week of March 16-22March 23, 2015The VC women's tennis team has been on the verge of a big win all season. That win came Thursday as the Pirates defeated defending WSC champion Santa Monica 5-4 on Thursday afternoon. Jia Weibe was a double-winner in that match.

Emil Ozeke, Men's Golf, Week of March 9-15March 16, 2015Led by Emil Ozeke, the Pirate golf team posted its best score of the season Monday at its own Western State Conference event at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard.

Hironori Koyanagi, Men's Tennis, Week of Feb. 23-Mar. 1March 02, 2015The Pirates' men's tennis team is back on top of the Western State Conference. Leading the charge is Hironori Koyanagi, who is undefeated this season in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.

Dylan Colman, VC Baseball, Week of Feb. 16-22February 23, 2015The Pirate baseball team closed the week with their first two-game winning streak of the season, thanks in large part to the efforts of sophomore left fielder Dylan Colman.

Brittany Perez, Pirate Softball, Week of Feb. 9-15February 16, 2015The Pirate softball team found their bats over the weekend, winnin three of four games at the Mt. San Jacinto President's Day Weekend Tournament in Menifee. A Big reason behind their success was freshman Brittany Perez.

Steven Bush, Men's Basketball, Week of Feb. 2-8February 09, 2015Steven Bush of the men's basketball team picked a great time to have a breakout game. With the Pirates coming off a bye and facing conference co-leading Allan Hancock College on Saturday, Bush had a career high 21 points to lead Ventrua to a 73-68 victory.

Coach Gary Anglin, Football/Baseball, Week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1February 02, 2015We will take a one week break to honor Coach Gary Anglin. Anglin, who is retiring at the end of the year, has been selected for induction to the Clifornia Community Colleges Football Hall of Fame next month.

Brooke Zamora, Women's Basketball, Week of Jan. 19-25January 26, 2015The women's basketball team is back in first place in the Western State Conference North Division, due in large part to the play of Brooke Zamora. The freshman from Royal High School who worked her way into the starting line-up early in the season is the Pirates' leading scorer in conference play.

Vondel Faniel, Men's Basketball, Week of Jan. 12-18January 20, 2015Vondel Faniel of the men's basketball team has had a strong start to 2015. The 6-foot-6 sophomore from Palmdale's Kinght high School is averaging a double-double through the first four games of the year at 14.0 points and 13.8 rebounds per contest.

Carolyn Ruffino, Women's Basketball, Week of Dec. 1-7December 08, 2014It has been a long road back for Pirate redshirt freshman Carolyn Ruffino. She had knee surgery in the spring of her senior year of high school, and spent last season as a redshirt. This season, she played competitively for the first time in two seasons.

Paul Harris, Pirate Football, Week of Nov. 17-23November 24, 2014Sophomore running back Paul Harris kept the Pirates in the game Saturday night. In VC's SCFA semifinal at No. 1 Riverside, Harris had 228 return yards, including a 100 yard kickoff return for a touchdown as the Pirates pushed the state's No. 1-ranked team.

Robert Hunt, Men's Basketball, Week of Nov. 11-17November 17, 2014Pirate freshman Robert Hunt has made an immediate impact for the Ventura College men's basketball team. This past weekend, Hunt, who hails from Gateway Christian in Memphis, Tenn., led the Pirates averaging 16.0 points per game, shooting 54 percent (15-28) from the floor, including a stellar 63 percent (12-19) from 3-point range.

Megan Kearney, Women's Cross Country, Week of Nov. 3-10November 10, 2014With a bid to the state championships on the line, Megan Kearney took charge, finishing as the Pirates’ No. 1 runner for the first time since Sept. 5, leading the team to an automatic qualifying position to the state finals in two weeks in Fresno.

Christina Tellez, Women's Water Polo, Week of Oct. 27-Nov. 2November 03, 2014The Pirates' women's water polo team won three matches this past week headed into the WSC Tournament Nov. 6-8. Sophomore Christina Tellez was a leader in those victories.

Anthony Rivas, Men's Cross Country, Week of Oct. 20-26October 27, 2014A year ago, VC cross country runner Anthony Rivas finished just seconds out of contention for a spot in the state championships. On Friday, he earned a second chance to qualify for state at the Western State Conference Championships.

Willie Cowan, Pirate Football, Week of Oct. 13-19October 20, 2014Pirate running back Willie Cowan made the most of his opportunities Saturday. He had big plays on special teams and scored a touchdown in VC's 50-19 win at Pasadena.

Tori Hiott, Pirate Volleyball, Week of Oct. 6-12October 13, 2014The Pirate volleyball team had one of its best weeks in years, sweeping SoCal No. 10 Pierce College and Allan Hancock College. One of the big reasons was the play of freshman Tori Hiott.

Dominic Tassano, Men's Water Polo, Week of Sept. 29-Oct. 5October 06, 2014Dominic Tassano led the Ventura College men's water polo team to a pair of victories this week at the American River College Tournament. In five total games during the week, Tassano scored 16 goals for VC.

Marc Evans, Pirate Football, Week of Sept. 22-28September 29, 2014VC sophomore Marc Evans, making his first collegiate start, led the No. 15-ranked Pirate football team to a 35-31 upset victory at No. 5 Cerritos Saturday night.

Cecily Loya, Women's Water Polo, Week of Sept. 15-21September 22, 2014Cecily Loya had an outstanding weekend for the VC women's water polo team at the Chaffey Tournament in Rancho Cucamonga. She scored nine goals in four games, and was the leader of the Pirate defense with 13 steals.
