Delanie Gavid (Women's Soccer) and Mitchell Ongstad (Men's Swimming) were named the 2014-15 VC Athletes of the Year at the Hall of Fame and Student Athlete Recognition Banquet last month.
Gavid, a sophomore defender who prepped at Royal High School in Simi Valley, was a team captain for the Pirates in 2014 and earned first-team All-Western State Conference honors. She will be attending Long Beach State in the fall to play soccer for the 49ers.
Ongstad, a sophomore who also came from Royal High School in Simi Valley, was named the state's Co-Swimmer of the Year following two individual golds and a silver in the CCCAA State Championships. He also led four VC relay teams to high finishes at the state meet, as the VC men finished sixth overall in the state. Ongstad was also named the WSC Male Swimmer of teh Year leading Ventura to the WSC title. Finally, he was named the County Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year at the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame Banquet on Sunday. He has signed with the University of the Pacific in Stockton to swim for the Tigers next year.
