
Freshman Mariah Gamboa, who played first base for the Pirate softball team, led six Pirates on the All-Western State Conference Gold Division team, as selected by conference coaches last weekend. Gamboa was the only Pirate named to the first-team squad. She had a .580 batting average in conference play and a .378 batting average overall.
Five Pirates were named second-team All-WSC. Pitcher Alexis White was named to the squad, along with catcher Gabriella Ramos. Infielders Brittany Perez and Lindsey Deitz were also named second-team, along with outfielder Yamilex Ruiz.
VC finished the season with a 9-6 conference record in third place in the standings, one game out of an automatic playoff position.
