Chad Wright enters his 11th season as head coach for the Pirate golf team in 2023, his 15th year overall with the Pirate golf program. Coach Wright led the Pirates to a fourth place finish in the Western State Conference Championships a year ago to qualify as a team for the Southern California Regionals for the eighth time in eight seasons. (There were no regionals in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.)
VC was runner-up in 2022 under Wright and third in 2023. The Pirates also had three straight runner-up finishes, 2016-2018. VC 's third place finish at the 2017 CCCAA State Championshps matched the 2009 team for the best finish in program history, and the Pirates finished sixth at state in 2022. VC finished third in the conference standings in 2015 and 2019. Ventura golf is 452-187 (.707 winning pct.) in WSC play in eight full seasons under Coach Wright.
Coach Wright grew up in Ventura, starring at Buena High School, and went on to become a two-time NCAA All-American at USC in 1995 and 1997. During that time he finished fifth at the NCAA Finals in 1995 and won three events in his senior year including the College All-American Golf Classic in El Paso, Tex.
Coach Wright went on to become an exempt player on the Canadian, Australasian, and Web.com Tours from 1998-2003. During that time he won the 2000 Canadian PGA Championship. He has since become a PGA of America Member as an instructor at River Ridge GC in Oxnard. Chad uses state of the art mobile video analysis with his team lessons using an ipad2.
