The Ventura College golf team turned in its best performance in eight years, carding a 5-over 365 as a team Monday to win the Western State Conference No. 8 match at San Dimas Golf Club hosted by Citrus College. Nicholas Burns was the individual medalist with a strong round of 3-under 69. Steen Zeman was tied for second a stroke back and Zack Garboski tied for 11th with a 1-over 73 as the Pirates posted their first team win in over three years.
All six Pirate golfers shot below 80 as Evan Colborn, last week's medalist, carded a 2-over par 74. Liam Kebely and Jonas Slattum each posted scores of 79 to round out the Pirates' field.
Ventura finished two strokes ahead of Glendale as both teams handed WSC front-runner Canyons its first defeats of the season. The Cougars were third at 379 followed by Santa Barbara with a team score of 380.
Monday's first place finish was the Pirates' first team victory in a full WSC match since Feb. 18, 2019.
The team total of 365 was Ventura's best team score since they posted a 363 at Marshall Canyon Golf Course on April 14, 2014 in a match also hosted by Citrus.
The Pirates next match is on Monday April 11 at Bakersfield Country Club.
