
The Pirate golf team finished a strong second place again on Monday, carding a team score of 374 at the Western State Conference No. 7 event at Santa Maria Country Club hosted by Allan Hancock College. Steen Zeman posted a 3-under 69 to claim medalist honors, his eighth Top-10 finish in nine WSC matches this season. Nicholas Burns, meanwhile tied for second with a 1-under 71.
Evan Colborn fired a 3-over 75 to tie for 10th place overall. Other VC scores included Jonas Slattum with a 79 and Joshua Calderon and Zack Garboski each at 80.
The win is Zeman's first this year following three runner-up finishes, two in the past two weeks. It puts him in the driver's seat for the conference Most Valuable Player honor heading into the 36-hole WSC Championships next week.
As a team, Ventura has a conference mark of 51-12 which puts them firmly in second place, eight games ahead of third-place Glendale heading into the conference finals on Monday April 28 at Alisal River Golf Course in Solvang.
