The Ventura College golf team teed off the 2022 season Sunday and Monday at the 36-hole Point Conception Open at La Purisma Golf Club in Lompoc Sunday and Monday. The Pirates posted team scores of 424 and 402 for a final mark of 826, good for ninth in the 15-team event. Steen Zeman shot a 79-78, 151 for VC to place in a tie for 15th place overall out of 81 golfers who posted a two-round score.
Nicholas Burns carded a 81-80, 161 for Ventura while Zack Garboski (81-82, 163) and Martin Alvarez (84-79, 163) were the Pirates' third scores in. Other VC players included Joshua Calderon (101-83, 184) and Ryan Gonzalez (99-96, 195).
Cypress won the team event with a score of 393-376, 769 while Canyons fielded two teams that tied for second with a total score of 780.
Cypress, Santa Barbara and Canyons shared the individual medalist honors, with three golfers each posting a combined score of 150.
The Pirates will open Western State Conference play on Monday Feb. 7 at WSC #1 at Valencia Country Club hosted by College of the Canyons.
