The Ventura College golf team battled difficult conditions Monday, finishing in the middle of a 12-team field at the Pt. Conception Open at La Purisma Golf Club in Lompoc. The Pirates turned in a team score of 433 to finish sixth overall. Nathan Long carded an 81 to lead Ventura to place 13th individually, and AJ Ryland shot an 85.
Saddleback went low in the team standings with a 395 to claim the team title and Desert came in second with a 409. Western State Conference foe Glendale was third with a 413.
Other Ventura golfers included Jonas Slattum with an 86, Martin Alvarez scoring an 89, Zack Garboski with a 92 and Joshua Calderon at 94.
VC next hits the links on Monday Feb. 6 at the WSC No. 1 event hosted by Glendale College at Oakmont Country Club. Tee times begin at 10:00 am.
