The Ventura College men's cross country team finished in the runner-up spot at last week's Western State Conference Championships held in Bakersfield. Leading the pack for VC was Jacob Hernandez, who covered the 4-mile course in a season-best 20:35, nearly a full minute faster than he ran the same course a month earlier. The freshman from Ventura High School placed fourth of 101 finishers in the meet, and was the top Pirate for the first time all season. It was the Pirates' best finish at the WSC Championships since 2009. For his efforts, Jacob has been named this week's VC Pirate Student Athlete of the Week, proudly sponsored by Snapper Jack's Taco Shack.
