Wallace, Hall Named First Team All-Western State Conference
November 28, 2017VC freshmen Kayla Wallace and Haley Hall headlined the Pirates' women's water polo All-Western State Conference honorees, both earning first-team accolades. Wallace, a Rio Mesa High School product, ledthe WSC in steals, was fourth in assists and fifth in exclusions drawn. Hall, who hails from Royal high School, was third in the conference in saves. -
VC Brings Home 4th Place From WSC Tournament
November 04, 2017The VC women's water polo team brought home fourth place from the Western State Conference Women's Water Polo Tournament Saturday after a hard-fought 8-5 loss to Cuesta College. Freshmen Kayla Wallace and Katie Heath each scored twice in the season finale for the Pirates held at Citrus College in Glendora. -

Women's Water Polo Advances in WSC Tournament
November 01, 2017VC sophomore Kelsey Golden scored twice in the fourth quarter propelling the No. 5-seeded Pirates to a 9-7 victory over No. 4 Allan Hancock College Wednesday in the first round of the Western State Conference Tournament in Santa Maria. Sabrina Cherfane led Ventura (14-14, 3-4) with four goals and Golden finished with three as the Pirates advance to Friday's WSC semifinal against No. 1 Santa Barbara at Citrus College in Glendora. -
Pirates Polo Splits Regular Season Finale
October 27, 2017The Pirates' women's water polo team split a pair of Western State Conference matches Friday at the Ventura Aquatic Center to finish the regular season. VC fell to Cuesta 8-4 in the first contest of the day before defeating LA Pierce 14-4 in the nightcap under the lights. Katia Flores had an outstanding day with three goals, three assists, two drawn exclusions and eight steals in the two games for the Pirates (13-14, 2-4). -
Pirates Gain Measure of Redemption With WSC Victory
October 25, 2017Just three days ago, the VC women's water polo team dropped a 7-6 decision to LA Valley at the truWest Battle at the Beach in Long Beach. Wednesday, the Pirates gained a measure of redemption with a 12-5 victory over the Monarchs in Western State Conference play. Kelsey Golden and Sara McGuire each scored three goals while Kayla Wallace recorded two scores with three assists for Ventura (12-13, 1-3). -

The Pirates' comeback bid came up short in the opener, a 7-6 loss to LA Valley, before they dropped a 10-7 decision to Palomar in the second match of the day. Sara McGuire had four goals and three steals while Kelsey Golden netted three scores with four assists and three thefts. Sabrina Cherfane also scored three times on the day for Ventura (11-13, 0-3). -
Women's Polo Claims Two Victories in Battle at the Beach
October 20, 2017Behind a solid and balanced performance, the VC women's water polo team claimed two victories to open the truWest Battle at the Beach Tournament in Long Beach Friday. Ventura came from behind to defeat Grossmont 12-10 in the opener before besting Pasadena 15-9 in the nightcap to win their pool. Sabrina Cherfane netted seven goals to lead the Pirates while Kayla Wallace pulled in 11 steals defensively to lead the way. The Pirates have now won six of their last seven matches. -

October 11, 2017The VC women's water polo team traveled to Glendora Wednesday, dropping a 14-5 decision to Citrus in Western State Conference play. Kayla Wallace had a pair of goals with a drawn exclusion and a steal to lead the Pirates (9-11, 0-3). Kelsey Golden scored one goal with an assist and one steal in the game. -
Ventura Ends Perfect Weekend with Two More Wins
October 07, 2017It was the perfect ending to the weekend. The VC women's water polo team closed the Ventura Tournament with an overtime win and a blowout victory Saturday, sporting a perfect 4-0 record for the tournament at the Ventura Aquatic Center. The Pirates (9-10) defeated Palomar 9-8 in double overtime in the morning match before routing San Diego Miramar 12-5 in their tournament finale. Sabrina Cherfane had six goals on the day while Kayla Wallace and Kelsey Golden netted five and four scores, respectively. -
Pirates Win Two to Open Ventura Tournament
October 06, 2017The VC women's water polo team came from behind twice Friday to produce a pair of victories on the first day of the Ventura Tournament. The Pirates trailed El Camnio 3-2 at halftime before posting the 7-6 win, and they were behind Cypress 6-3 at intermission before shutting out the Chargers in the second half to post the 8-6 win. Sabrina Cherfane led with five goals in the two games while Kayla Wallace had three goals, three assists, four drawn exclusions and seven steals for Ventura (7-10). -
Women's Polo Can't Hold On Against Hancock
October 04, 2017The Pirates' women's water polo team held a 7-4 advantage late in the third period against visiting Allan Hancock College Wednesday but could not hold on as the Bulldogs scored the final six goals of the match for the 10-7 result. Kayla Wallace had a pair of goals with two assists and seven steals for VC (5-10, 0-2) and Katie Heath scored twice with an assist and two steals. -

September 30, 2017After a pair of victories Friday, the Pirates' women's water polo team took a pair of losses Satruday in the top bracket of the San Diego Women's Water Polo Classic at Miramar College. VC (5-9) lost to Cypress 11-7 in the first match of the day before falling 16-3 to Sierra College in the second. Kelsey Golden had four goals, five steals and a drawn exclusion n the two contests and Kayla Wallace handed out two assists with three exclusions and seven steals. -
VC Claims Two Victories at San Diego Classic
September 29, 2017The Pirates' women's water polo team claimed a pair of victories Friday at the San Diego Women's Water Polo Classic at Miramar College. VC opened with an 11-7 win over Southwestern before closing the day with a 9-7 victory over Palomar. Kelsey Golden netted six goals in the two games with six assists and eight steals. Sabrina Cherfane, meanwhile, scored four times with three assists and a steal for VC (5-7). -
Young Beats "Old(er)" as Pirates Defeat Alumnae
September 23, 2017The youth won out Saturday morning as the VC women's water polo team defeated the VC Alumnae 15-10 at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Kelsey Golden led a spirited attack by the current Pirates with five goals, three assists and a steal. Samantha Ontiveros netted three scores for the Pirates (3-7) while Sara McGuire and Kayla Wallace each scored twice.. -
Ventura Has Strong Effort in WSC Opener
September 20, 2017The Ventura College women's water polo team had a strong effort Wednesday afternoon at Santa Barbara City College in the Western State Conference opener for both teams. The Pirates jumped out to a 4-0 lead, and had an 8-6 halftime advantage before ultimately falling 15-12. Kelsey Golden scored seven goals with three steals in the game to lead the Pirates (2-7, 0-1) and Kayla Wallace scored twice with four thefts. -
Women's Polo Continues Growth Despite Setbacks
September 16, 2017The young Pirates' women's water polo team continued their growth Saturday despite a pair of losses against top-ranked competition at the Riverside Tournament. VC dropped the opener against state No. 1 Riverside 14-6 before closing the weekend with a 12-6 loss to San Joaquin Delta. Kayla Wallace led the team with three goals, three assists and seven steals in the two games and Kelsey Golden also scored three times. -

September 15, 2017The Ventura College women's water polo team dropped a pair of matches against Orange Empire Conference competition Friday at the Riverside City College Tournament. VC (2-4) put up a valiant fight but were outmatched by Golden West 10-4 in the opener before falling to Orange Coast 16-7 in the second game of the day. Kayla Wallace had three goals with four drawn exclusions and eight steals on the day while Kelsey Golden scored three times with four steals, and assist and one exclusion. -
Women's Polo Wins Two vs. NorCal Opponents
September 09, 2017The Ventura College women's water polo team recorded its first wins of the young season, sweeping a pair of matches against Northern California opponents at the Central Coast Tournament at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo Saturday. VC (2-2) defeated Foothill 13-6 in the opener before besting Merced 15-7 in the second match. Kelsey Golden had five goals and eaight steals on the day while Katie Heath recorded four scores with five steals and four assists. -
Pirates Fall Twice on '17 Opening Day
September 02, 2017VC's women's water polo team traveled to Cypress College Saturday, dropping the opening two matches of the 2017 season, 9-5 to the host Chargers and 15-9 to Chaffey College. Sara McGuire had six goals in the two games while Kayla Wallace recorded eight steals, six assists and four drawn exclusions. Katie Heath and Kelsey Golden each had five steals for the Pirate defense.
