
The Ventura College women's water polo team had an early wake-up call Saturday morning, playing host Riverside at their tournament at 7:45 am, falling to the 2015 state runner-up Tigers 15-8 before rebounding to win the tournament finale 19-5 over Chaffey. Lauren Wiksell and Ylva Ostlin each had seven goals on the day and Nicole Garcia produced eight saves in goal.
Ventura 8, Riverside 15
The Pirate offense struggled against one of the top programs in the state. VC trailed 4-1 at the end of the first quarter and 10-4 at halftime. Ostlin scored three goals in the match and Wiksell found the net twice. Kelsey Golden had two assists witha score with four steals defensively. Garcia turned back five Tiger shots in the cage.
Ventura 19, Chaffey 5
Ventura ended a four-game skid by routing the Panthers in the tournament finale. VC jumped out to a 5-1 lead at the end of the first period and led 11-2 at halftime. Wiksell had five goals and three steals to lead the way while Ostlin scored three with four assists. Paige Treloar-Ballard netted four scores with three helpers and four thefts. Sabrina Cherfane had four steals as the Pirates had 18 steals as a team. Devon Compton had five saves in goal.
THe Pirates (5-4) will return to Western State Conference play on Wednesday Sept. 21 at Los Angeles Pierce before returning home on Saturday Sept. 24 to ghost the VC Alumnae at 11:00 and and a UC Santa Barbara club team at 1:30 pm.
