
The VC women's water polo team fell to Santa Barbara City College Wednesday in their Western State Conference opener. The Pirates fell behind 4-0 early in the second period in the physical contest before ultimately dropping the game 10-4. Raylynn Lipsky scored a pair of second half goals and also grabbed eight steals defensively. Shayle Barrus recorded 10 saves with three steals in the cage for VC (5-4, 0-1).
After Falling behind 3-0 at the end of the first quarter, VC allowed one more Vaquero goal before Cali Iadevaia got Ventura on the board midway through the second. The Pirates went into halftime trailing 7-1.
Lipsky's unassisted goal got things going in the second half for VC, but the die had been cast. Alani Mercado and Lipsky both scored in the final period to set the 10-4 margin.
The Pirates next travel to the San Diego Tournament Oct. 4 and 5 before returning home for the Ventura Tournament Oct. 11 and 12.
