WOMEN'S WATER POLO: The Ventura College women's water polo claimed a pair of matches on Friday at the Chaffey Tournament in Rancho Cucamonga. The Pirates defeated Cerritos 6-5, the first victory for VC over the Falcons in recent memory, and followed that up with a solid 10-5 win over San Diego Mesa. Molly Watkins was big in the net with 14 saves against Cerritos, and turned around to score three goals with two steals in the nightcap. Lauren McCaslin scored four goals on the day.
Ventura 6, Cerritos 5
Watkins dominated the game against the Falcons with 14 saves in goal. VC had the shutout going for a while, but offensive rebounds and scores allowed the Falcons back into the game. Jerilyn Hollis had a pair of scores with two drawn ejections and a steal and McCaslin also scored twice. Christina Tellez and Ashley runyon also scored for the Pirates.
Ventura 10, San Diego Mesa 5
Watkins played in the field, netting three goals and two steals. Scarlett Lund-Sidi found the back of the net twice with a pair of steals and an assist while Runyon had a goal and two steals. Vanessa Vega recorded eight steals for VC.
The Pirates will complete play in the Chaffey Tournament on Saturday Sept. 21 with matches against East Los Angeles and highly-ranked Riverside. The Pirates host Cuesta on Wednesday Sept. 24 at the Ventura Aquatic Center at 2:15 pm.
