After scoring the first six goals of the game, and racing to a 9-1 first quarter advantage, the VC women's water polo team cruised to an 18-3 conference victory at Los Angeles Pierce Wednesday in Woodland Hills. Seven different Pirates scored two goals each, and 11 players scored overall in the rout.
Four different Pirates scored goals to open the game before Beth Arbon became the first double-goal scorer for Ventura (6-4, 1-1). Ylva Ostlin netted her second score to make it 6-0, and Sabrina Cherfane scored back-to-back goals before the opening period ended.
Katia Flores found the back of the cage for the second time in the second period as the Pirates built a 14-1 lead at halftime.
Lauren Wiksell scored her second goal of the day in the third period, as did Paige Treloar-Ballard in the balanced VC attack. Christina Jimenez closed the Pirate scoring in the fourth with her second goal of the game.
Maeve Flynn, MaryBeth Schroder, Brittany Camp, and Kalyn Pina all had single scores against the Brahmas.
The Pirates will return home on Saturday Sept. 24 for a match against the VC Alumnae beginning at 11:00 am at the Ventura Aquatic Center. VC will also play a UC Santa Barbara club team at 1:30 pm on Saturday.
