WOMEN'S WATER POLO: It is never easy to lose in the playoffs and that was the case again Thursday as the Pirates' women's water polo team, seeded No. 10 in the Southern California Regional Playoffs, dropped a 15-8 decision to the No. 7 Orange Coast Pirates on Thursday afternoon in Cerritos. Cecily Loya, Lauren McCaslin, and Scarlett Lund-Sidi all scored two goals for VC (17-10-1) and Molly Watkins had 11 saves for the Pirates of the North in the loss.
Ventura held an early 2-1 lead on goals by McCaslin and Loya, but Orange Coast stormed back, holding a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 7-3 advantage at halftime. The Pirates of the South never looked back, outscoring VC in both the third and fourth quarters in the second half.
Lund-Sidi also had three assists and three steals in the contest while McCaslin added a pair of steals and three drawn ejections to her scoring line. Jerilyn Hollis scored a goal with four steals on defense and a drawn 5m foul and Sarah Shah also scored a goal with an assist.
Ventura closes the season with a 17-10-1 record overall, going 3-2 in Western State Conference play earning a third-place finish in the conference.
