Robarge Runner-Up at State
May 12, 2014Pirate freshman Greg Robarge had a case of the nerves Monday morning. He bogeyed the first three holes of the CCCAA State Championships at Victoria Club in Riverside but gathered himself well, however, shooting an incredible six under par the rest of the way, posting a 71-70, 141 in the 36-hole event. He claimed individual runner-up and All-State honors in the season's final tournament. -
Robarge Qualifies for State
May 05, 2014Greg Robarge carded a team-low 75-71, 146 on Monday at the SoCal Regionals to qualify for the CCCAA State Golf Championships on May 12. As a team VC posted a score of 766 to place eighth in the 10-team regional at Stone Ridge Country Club in Poway. Erick Thorbeck shot 75-74, 149 to miss qualifying for state by one stroke. Other VC scores included Aaron Lee (77-77, 154), Greg Brown (79-77, 156), Patrick Holden (80-81, 161) and Remy Smaby (86, 83, 169). -
VC Golf 4th at WSC Finals
April 28, 2014Competing in the 36-hole Western State Conference golf championships, the Pirate golf team finished in third place of the eight participating schools at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena. All-WSC selection Greg Robarge was the low man for VC with a 70-75, 145, followed by Aaron Lee (72-77, 149) and Pat Holden (73-76, 149). Erik Thorbecke followed at 76-77, 153, along with Remy Smaby (72-82, 154) and Greg Brown (76-82, 158). Canyons won the morning round (339) followed by Santa Barbara (358) and VC (362). The Cougars also claimed the afternoon (373) followed by Glendale (381) and the Pirates (387). -
Pirates Fall Back at Glendale
April 14, 2014The Ventura College golf team fell back from their overall second-place tie with a fourth place finish at the Western State Conference event hosted by Glendale College at Oakmont Country Club. Santa Barbara, who entered the day tied with VC for second, won the event with a team score of 396 and host Glendale used local knowledge of the course to finish second with a 396. WSC-leading Canyons was third (410) followed by Ventura at 416. Aaron Lee was the low man for the Pirates with a 79, followed by Greg Robarge (80), Erik Thorbecke (84), Greg Brown (84), Remy Smaby (89) and Pat Holden (97). -
Golf Climbs Back to Second
April 07, 2014They have been close to the runner-up spot in the conference all season long, and on Monday the Pirate golf team climbed back into a second place tie on the year with Santa Barbara with their runner-up finish at the Western State Conference event at Marshall Canyon Golf Course hosted by Citrus College. The Pirates posted a team score of 363, behind only SoCal No. 1 Canyons at 345. Greg Brown paced VC on the par-71 course with a 1-under 70 and Greg Robarge followed with a 71. Aaron Lee (72), Erik Thorbecke (74), Pat Holden (76) and Remy Smaby (78) rounded out the Ventura scores. -
Pirate Golf Third at Hancock
March 31, 2014The Ventura College golf team placed third of eight teams at the Western State Conference event hosted by Allan Hancock College at the par-72 course at Santa Maria Country Club Monday. Conference front-runner Canyons placed first with a team score of 356, followed by Santa Barbara at 378 and the Pirates at 389. Erik Thorbecke paced the VC team with a 1-over 73, followed by Greg Brown (74), Remy Smaby (77), Stephan Moffat (80) and Greg Robarge (81). -
VC Takes a Step Back at AVC
March 24, 2014One conference meet after their best showing of the season, the Pirate golf team was unable to provide an encore, falling to fourth place overall at the Western State Conference event at Antelope Valley Country Club Monday. Santa Barbara won the event with a team score of 368, followed by Canyons (376), Bakersfield (380) and VC (382). Greg Robarge had the low score of the day for the Pirates at 73, followed by Remy Smaby and Erik Thorbecke(76), Patrick Holden (77), Aaron Lee (80) and Stephan Moffatt (81). -
Golfers In the Middle at CoC
March 17, 2014The Ventura College golf team finished sixth of 11 teams at the College of the Canyons Invitational Monday at Crystalaire Country Club in Llano in the High Desert. The Pirates carded a team score of 402 to finish in the middle of the pack. Canyons won the event with a 378, followed by Orange Coast and Riverside. Greg Robarge was the low player for the Pirates with a 74, followed by Aaron Lee (75), Remy Smaby (82) and Erik Thorbecke (82), Pat Holden (85) and Greg Brown (87). -
Golfers Claim 2nd at SBCC
February 17, 2014The Pirate golf team had a strong performance, placing second of eight teams at the Western State Conference meet hosted by Santa Barbara City College at the par-72 Alisal Ranch Country Club Monday. VC posted a team score of 386, one stroke better than the host Vaqueros. Canyons won the event with a 375. Greg Robarge led the Pirate effort with a 74 and Stephan Moffatt shot 76. They were followed by Erik Thorbecke (77), Greg Brown (79), Justin Bennett (80), and Aaron Lee (82). VC now is tied for second in he season standings with SBCC. -
Pirates 3rd at WSC Opener
February 10, 2014On a cold and very windy day at Valencia Country Club, the Pirate golf team placed third of the eight Western State Conference schools in the season's first conference match hosted by College of the Canyons. Scores were high with the difficult conditions as the host Cougars placed first with a team score of 367 followed by Santa Barbara (402) and Ventura (424). Aaron Lee paced the VC team with an 82, followed by Greg Brown (83), Erik Thorbecke (86), Pat Holden (86) and Greg Robarge (87). -
Golfers 3rd at VVC Invite
February 03, 2014Traveling to the High Desert Monday, the VC golf team placed third behind Orange Coast and Antelope Valley in the Pnoomonia Invitational hosted by Victor Valley College at Spring Valley Lake Country Club. The duo of Aaron Lee and remy Smaby shot a 66 in the two-man best ball tournament, followed by Greg Robarge and Greg Brown (67) and Stephan Moffat and Corey Rohm (70). -
Pirate Golf Off to Strong Start
January 28, 2014The Ventura College golf team got the 2014 season off to a strong start with a second place finish at the Bakersfield Invitational Monday and Tuesday. Leading after day ne of the eight-team affair, the Pirates could not post a consistent team score, allowing Reedley to slip into the top spot. VC shot 378-397, 775, nine strokes behind the Tigers, 381-385, 766. Host Bakersfield finished third (395-404, 799). Sophomore Aaron Lee led the Pirates with a two-day combined score of 72-79, 151, followed by freshman Stephan Moffat (76-77, 153).
