Despite a disappointing finish in the Western State Conference Tournament, the VC women's water polo team has qualified for the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs to be held at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa this coming weekend. The Pirates, seeded No. 10, will take on No. 7 Cuesta in a first round game on Thursday Nov. 14 at 11:30 am.
Ventura (18-12) comes into the tournament off their fourth-place finish in the WSC Tournament. However, despite the final weekend disappointments, the Pirates have been consistently ranked in the Top-10 among Southern California teams all season.
The Pirates split with Cuesta (19-12) in two ultra-close games. VC defeated the Cougars 10-9 during the regular season on Oct. 9. Last weekend, the Cuesta returned the favor with an 11-10 victory over the Pirates in the third-place game of the WSC Tournament.
The winner of Thursday's first round game will take on No. 2-seeded Riverside (27-3) on Friday Nov. 15, also in Costa Mesa. The regional final will be held Saturday Nov. 16.
