Pirate Student Athletes Strong in the Classroom
August 19, 2022Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2021-22, achieving an overall 3.26 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a solid 3.19 overall GPA in the spring. A total of 123 Pirates earned Dean's List honors in the fall of 2021 with a 3.5 GPA or better while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 51 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In the spring, 112 VC student athletes were featured on the Dean's List with 41 posting perfect GPA's. -
All-WSC Selections for Men's Water Polo Announced
December 07, 2021The VC men's water polo team placed four players on the All-Western State Conference first-team as selected by conference coaches in November. Transfer sophomore Andre Galvez leads the list of Pirate honorees, along with sophomore Zane Herman and freshmen Jaeger Gonzales and Christian Scanlan. Ventura finished as runner-up in the WSC in 2021, its best finish since 2013.

Men's Polo Ends Season in WSC Finals
November 06, 2021A resurgent season came to a close Saturday for the Ventura College men's water polo team in the championship game of the Western State Conference Tournament, falling to Cuesta 18-11. As he has all season, transfer sophomore Andre Galvez led the Pirates with six goals, two assists and five drawn ejections. Zane Herman netted a pair of scores with three helpers and two drawn ejections.

Pirates Edge LAVC For WSC Championship Berth
November 05, 2021Andre Galvez scored a goal with eight seconds remaining in the game as the VC men's water polo team edged Los Angeles Valley 11-10 in the semifinals of the Western State Conference Tournament Friday at Citrus College. The late score completed a pair of mini-comebacks by the Pirates as they trailed twice by one goal late in the fourth quarter. Galvez scored five goals in the game and Jaeger Gonzales turned back 11 shots in the cage for Ventura, who advances to Saturday's WSC Championship Game against Cuesta.

Ventura Takes 2 of 3 at Orange Coast Mini
October 23, 2021The Ventura College men's water polo team won two of three games Saturday in Costa Mesa at the Ornage Coast Mini Tournament. VC dropped the opener to the hosts 18-6 before defeating No. 7-ranked Grossmont 8-6 and running away from Palomar 15-2. Andre Galvez and Zane Herman each scored five goals in the three games to lead the offense and Mariano Galvez was key in the cage with 43 saves over the three games.

Men's Polo Clinches No. 2 Seed in WSC Tournament
October 19, 2021The VC men's water polo team clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Western State Conference Tournament with a 14-8 victory over LA Valley Tuesday at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Jaeger Gonzales had four steals defensively and 12 saves in goal, including shutting the Monarchs out in the decisive third period. Andre Galvez scored seven goals offensively with a pair of assists and six drawn ejections and Zane Herman found the inside of the cage three times with two helpers and three steals.

Pirates Come Back With Two Wins at Cuesta Tournament
October 16, 2021The Pirates' men's water polo team turned things around with a convincing 18-6 win over Ohlone and an 11-9 come-from-behind victory over Las Positas Saturday in San Luis Obispo at the Cuesta Tournament. Andre Galvez once again led the Prates offensively with 11 goals on the day while Anthony Ibarra netted seven goals and Zane Herman scored three with seven assists. Jaeger Gonzales recorded 21 saves.

Pirates Drop Two at Cuesta Tournament
October 15, 2021The Pirates men's water polo team dropped a pair of games Fiday in San Luis Obispo at the Cuesta Tournament. VC fell in the opener to the hosts in a Western State Conference game 14-8 before dropping the nightcap 10-7 to Modesto. Andre Galvez scored six goals with two assists, three steals and six drawn ejections and Zane Herman scored five times with three assists and two steals. Jaeger Gonzales had 27 saves in goal over the two games.

Pirates Start Fast, Hold Off Santa Monica, 14-12
October 13, 2021The VC men's water polo team got out to a quick start Wednesday at Santa Monica and held off the Corsairs throughout the second half of the Pirates' 14-12 victory over the hosts. Andre Galvez netted six goals with a pair of drawn ejections and Jaeger Gonzales turned back 11 shots in the cage to lead the Pirates. Zane herman added three goals with five assists and Anthony Ibarra also scored three times with three drawn ejections on the day.

Pirates Outlast Owls in Double-Overtime Win
October 06, 2021In a tight game that featured 10 ties and seven lead changes, the Pirates' men's water polo team outlasted Citrus 15-14 in double-overtime at the Ventura Aquatic Center Wednesday afternoon. Alexis Nava scored the game winner with an assist by Zane Herman with 2:42 remaining in the second extra period. Andre Galvez scored four goals with an assist and three drawn ejections and Jaeger Gonzales was key in goal, turning back 17 shots by the Owls.

Ventura Goes 4-2 at Saddleback Tournament
October 02, 2021The Pirates' men's water polo team completed a successful weekend in Mission Viejo, winning a pair of games Saturday at the Saddleback Tournament to post a 4-2 record for the two-day trip. Ventura (8-7) defeated Southwestern and Modesto before falling to Grossmont in the tournament finale. Andre Galvan continued his stellar campaign with 18 goals, nine assists and five steals to lead the way and Jaeger Gonzales recorde 24 saves in the cage with six assists.

Men's Polo 2-1 on 1st Day of Saddleback Tournament
October 01, 2021The VC men's water polo team won a pair of games on the first day of the Saddleback Tournament in Mission Viejo on Friday. After an opening 20-8 setback against the hosts, the Pirates defeated Crafton Hills 21-3 and Palomar 20-3 in the final two contests. Andre Galvez finished the day with 17 goals and seven assists and Zane Herman netted eight scores and eight assists. Jaeger Gonzales and Mariano Galvez each had 17 saves in goal in the three games.

Men's Polo With Difficult Day at Central Coast Invite
September 25, 2021The VC men's water polo team had a difficult day at the Central Coast Invitational Saturday in San Luis Obispo. The Pirates dropped their opener to Golden West 13-6 before falling to host Cuesta 12-5 in the nightcap. Andre Galvez scored four goals with three assists in the two games while Alexis Nava and Anthony Ibarra each recorded a pair of scores. Zane Herman had six assists on the day for Ventura (4-5).

VC Split Pair at Mt. SAC Tournament
September 17, 2021The Pirates' men's water polo team defeated Rio Hondo 15-9 in their first game at the Mt. San Antonio Tournament on Friday before falling to Orange Coast 14-8. Andre Galvez once again led the offensive effort with eight goals, two assists and seven drawn ejections while totaling four steals. Mariano Galvez had 26 saves in the cage. Benjamin Sweet and Zane Herman each scored four times in the two games for the Pirates (4-3).

Pirates Split Final Day of Cesar Chavez Tourney
September 11, 2021The Ventura College men's water polo team concluded its weekend at the Cesar Chavez Tournament at Southwestern College by splitting a pair of games in Chula Vista. VC allowed a late rally by San Diego Mesa in the first contest of the day, falling 12-10 before rebounding to defeat the host Jaguars 16-12. Zane herman had six goals in the two games while Janson Cunningham and Andre Galvez each netted five scores. Mariano Galvez recorded 18 saves in the cage for VC (3-2).

Men's Polo Wins Two on Opening Day
September 10, 2021On their opening day of the 2021 season, the VC men's water polo claimed a pair of victories at the Cesar Chavez Tournament at Southwestern College in Chula Vista before falling in their third game of the day. The Pirates bested San Diego Miramar 18-11 and Palomar 22-5 before posting a 16-13 setback against Grossmont. Sophomore transfer Andre Galvez had a spectacular debut for Ventura (2-1) with 18 goals, four assists, five steals and six field blocks to lead the way while Zane Herman scored nine goals in the three contests.

VC's Fall Sports Returns to Competition
August 26, 2021Ventura College's fall sports return to competition on Friday August 27. When the Pirate volleyball team takes the court against Monterey Peninsula at 12:30 pm in the LA Mission Kickoff Classic it will mark the Pirates' first official fall sports contest in 21 months. The VC women's soccer team opens its 2021 season on Sunday Aug. 29 at Mt. San Antonio College beginning a full week of games in Pirate Athletics' return.
