The Ventura College men's water polo team broke through on the winning side in their second match of the day at the Golden West Tournament in Huntington Beach Friday. VC (4-18, 0-3) dropped the opener to West Valley, 30-14, before coming back to defeat American River 14-11 in the nightcap.
Ventura 14, West Valley 30
The Pirates had trouble with the Vikings from the onset, dropping the match 30-14. Dominic Tassano scored five goals while Daniel Amornim had three. Trevor Edwards scored twice and Keaton Hess, Michael Barbosa and Tyler Bleiberg also found the back of the net. J'son Ruiz turned back four West Valley shots.
Ventura 14, American River 11
Tassano led the effort once again for the Pirates in a winning cause with five goals. Amorim netted four scores and Edwards three. Barbosa and Mitchell Ongstad also each had a goal while Ruiz recorded five saves in the cage.
Ventura will take on Riverside and Orange Coast on saturday Oct. 25 to complete the Golden West Tournament. They complete the regular season at Santa Monica on Wednesday Oct. 29 and with their own mini-tournament on Friday Oct. 31 at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
