The Pirates' men's water polo team won two more games Saturday at the Saddleback Tournament, stretching their winning streak to six, taking home the tournament championship with a 4-0 record for the weekend. VC defeated Rio Hondo 12-5 in the morning before defeating Santa Monica 19-5 in the finale. Trevor Edwards and Jack Pickett each netted five goals on the day for VC (8-7, 1-0).
Ventura 12, Rio Hondo 5
Pickett led the way with three goals, a drawn ejection and a steal while Daniel Amorim contributed a pair of scores, four assists, one ejection and four steals. Tyler Bleiberg found the back of the net twice with three steals. Edwards, Alejandro Astudillo, Nathan Sardoni, Keaton Hess and Isaias Castanon all scored one goal each. J'son Ruiz recorded four saves, two steals and an assist in goal for VC.
Ventura 19, Santa Monica 5
The Pirates had their best quarter of the season, to date, jumping out to an 8-0 lead after the first eight minutes. Edwards scored four times with an assist, one drawn ejection and a steal while Astudillo had three goals, three steals and a block. Rogelio Coronado netted three goals, as well. Pickett had two scores while Amorim, Sardoni, Hess, Bleiberg, Eddie Quila and Coby Wiegman all recorded goals for the Pirates. Ruiz had three saves, three steals and an assist while Luis Galvez had five stops in the cage.
Ventura continues Western State Conference play on Wednesday Oct. 7 at Los Angeles Valley College. The conference match is set to begin at 3:30 pm. VC then travels to the Chaffey Tournament Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9 and 10.
